However, the videos show that clicking on the markers would be with the mouse and I'm wondering how that would work with a screen reader- and the module using keyboard navigation?
Hey there, Arin. Let me add some resources to your quiver! Here's our FAQ about accessibility in Storyline 360. It covers everything, so a great page to refer back to.
You can use markers to create a labeled graphic slide in Storyline. You'll use your tab and space bar to navigate and open the markers. JAWS will read the marker contents as you tab through. You can check out this example here.
What other tips can folks offer for creating accessible labeled interactions?
Thank you Crystal! I just wanted to make sure if I created a labeled graphic that when using JAWS or Keyboard Navigation it would still work with the markers and the set up-
Hi Ashley, I was just reading this article from AnEventApart about the use of animation when creating accessible content, and it made me think about the labeled markers in Storyline that have a continuous swirl animation as a default.
Here is a line from the article:
"Motion distracts people with inattention even when neurotypical people, or those not characterized by neurological patterns, are fine."
I know that the animation associated with a marker can be changed to none. Do you know if that would be the recommended practice for accessibility? Is the pulse animation subtle enough to not be a problem? Or, for safety, should we always use no animation on labeled graphics interactions?
Hi, Karen! Thanks for sharing that article with us. It sounds like removing the animation would be the safest bet, but I'll defer to the accessibility specialists in the community for their expert advice!
