Storyline Audio not playing on kindle

Apr 04, 2013

I have published a storyline project through LMS using the HTML5 AND with the Articulate mobile player on iPad.  Everything works great on the iPad (audio, visual, and tracking/reporting) but when we tested the deck on a Kindle Fire we have no audio.  :(

Is there something that I need to do when publishing to make sure the audio works or will I just not be able to publish for a kindle?

Also, it is not wrking on an iPhone.  Is that normal?

Thanks

Hi Jillian,

Currently, support for iPhones, Android devices and Kindle aren't available. I don't believe I've seen any posts or requests related to Kindle, but I can see how distributing a course on that device would be pretty popular with some users.

I'm really not sure what content a Kindle would support or what output type would be best. There are a couple of unsupported third-party programs that may help you to get your courses running on iPhones and Kindle, though. Please be advised, these are not developed or supported by Articulate, so we encourage you to test them out to ensure they meet your needs.

HTML5 player:

Screenr:

If your Articulate content does not include interactive elements (such as quizzes or user-initiated navigation), you can record your Articulate content as it plays, using a screencasting tool like Screenr (http://screenr.com), to capture a video of your Articulate content. Screenr is free, and screencasts can be viewed on iPads and iPhones directly from the screenr website. There are also options to publish your Screenr screencasts to YouTube and to download MP4 versions, both of which also play on non-Flash devices.

Also, you may want to keep the following chart handy. It contains some helpful information about supported features in Flash, HTML5 and mobile output types for Storyline and may save you some time when you're publishing for mobile content.

I hope this information helps!

Hi Jillian,

Yes, definitely. If you only want to distribute the courses on the iPad, I would suggest only selecting the option for the Articulate Mobile Player. If you have the HTML5 option selected, users may try to view the course on other devices. It may also help, if you have the option to do so, to state that the course runs best on the iPad somewhere in the beginning of the course. Just a suggestion, but it may cut down on the "Why can't I run it from this device?" type questions from users.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

OK,

I have published for iPad only, and when testing I have to download the articulate player.  That is fine, but now it is not reporting my completion.  Have you heard of this before?

I can take the course on a PC and it will show completed, but not if I take it through the articulate player on the iPad.  Also my bookmarks do not transfer over from the iPad to the computer and vis versa.

thank you for your help!

Good morning,

Thanks, Ron!

Jillian, Ron is correct. In order to track your content from the iPad, your LMS will need to support Tin Can API.

The following FAQs will help you determine when to publish for Tin Can API, how to publish, and where to host your published content.

I hope this helps! Have a fantastic Friday :)

If I publish with only HTML5 and not the articulate mobile player for the app, will I be able to track using SCORM or do I have to use the Tin Can API if I want to trck anything on the iPad?

My Goal:  I have a training course that I need to track completions, but would like to make it available for clients to take on an ipad.

I am checking with my LMS to see if they support Tin Can, but I am looking for a plan B if they don't have that ability.

Thank you for all of your wonderful help!

Hi Jillian!

I totally understand! Hopefully your LMS will have Tin Can support. If not, then there may be some other options for you.

To track your learners who view your iPad or HTML5 content, you'll need to do any one of the following:

  • Deploy your course from Articulate Online: Articulate Online fully supports tracking users who view your course with the Articulate Mobile Player on an iPad. When you publish, choose Articulate Online as your publish option, and mark the checkbox to "Use Articulate Mobile Player on iPad." Find out more about publishing to Articulate Online here.
  • Deploy your course from an LMS which supports the Tin Can API: Tin Can is a communication specification which allows learning management systems to receive tracking data from mobile apps. When you publish, choose LMS as your publish option, and mark the checkbox to “Use Articulate Mobile Player on iPad.” (If your LMS provider doesn’t yet support Tin Can API, we recommend that you urge them to do so.) Find out more about publishing for LMS here.
  • Deploy your course as HTML5 content, and have learners access it from your LMS with a browser that supports HTML5: This is a good option if you’re using an LMS which does not support Tin Can API and if learners will use an iPad or other device which doesn’t support Flash. When you publish, choose LMS as your publish option, and mark the checkbox to “Include HTML5 output. Find out more about publishing for LMS here.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Have a fantastic Friday

IT WORKS!!!  I had already published with HTML only and it wasn't working, but we figured out during testing that the user actually has to close down the browser page to receive credit.  I had a button trigger that would exit course when clicked on, but that was interfearing with the tracking.

Thank you for all of your help.
