Storyline breaking fonts

May 28, 2018

I've been having this issue for as long as I can remember, but I figured I'd ask and maybe find a solution.

So right now I'm working on this storyline file (in storyline 360, latest update as of 28/05/2018) and I have a couple of text boxes with the font "Bitter" that aren't showing up right.

When I'm in edit view, it shows it fine (see "font ok.png"), which is how it's supposed to look. But when I preview and/or publish, the font breaks and doesn't show any coherent text (see "font error.png"). I tried changing fonts and a lot of things but none seem to be working.

This is something that has happened with several different fonts across various different courses. Sometimes the designers have to send us their versions of the same font because one works and the other one doesn't for some reason.

Edit for another example: A couple of weeks ago a colleague and I were working on different modules of the same course and his computer wouldn't render some fonts, but mine did perfectly. He would have to send me his edited final storyline file so that I published it and uploaded it and the font showed up ok. Really weird.

Any idea why this could happen?

Hi Mica,

That's an odd setup, especially to see it that way in Preview! We have some known reasons why fonts don't appear correctly in the published output here but it doesn't seem that you're running in any of those? I'd also like to know if you've played around with the Modern Text setting (turning it off/on).

Lastly, have you checked that you have all the font types installed? There is often a Regular, Italic, Bold, etc. and depending on if your colleague used a different type than you had installed that could account for the differences.
