Storyline courses freezing
Aug 20, 2015
Hi,
I have had a couple of storyline courses published and working successfully for a couple of years now, however, in the last couple of weeks have noticed that both courses are freezing. The next and back buttons don't work and the only way to exit is to shut the browser down. When re-launching, you are taken back to the same screen which remains frozen.
The courses have been published to an LMS and I have tested with Chrome, Firefox and IE - all display the same issue. I currently have around 7000 users assigned these courses and it is creating a huge issue for us.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I would really appreciate some advice.
Thanks
Lucille

Hi Lucille,
Without seeing the files it's difficult to say - but is it always freezing in the same spot? Have you looked at uploading one of the course to SCORM Cloud to help rule out issues with the LMS as a whole? Do you know what update/version of Storyline they were published with? Perhaps for example it's an issue with newer browsers, like how Chrome 44 caused content that needed to be updated?
Hi Ashley,
Thank you for responding to my query... much appreciated.
I have uploaded both courses to the SCORM Cloud and am in the process of testing.
I published both courses using Storyline 1 Update 9: 1507.2316
Thanks Lucille for the update and please let us know if you continue to experience odd behavior or need additional help.
Had the same issue, things worked fine before the most recent update 9 1507.2316. Uninstalling/reinstalling didn't seem to solve it, reconfiguring my registry and creating myself as a new user seemed to work.
However, it now does cut off the bottom section of Storyline 1; you can only see 1/2 of the "New Layer", "Duplicate layer" and "Delete layer" buttons on the bottom right, making them a little trickier to click on.
Similarly under States - the bottom section is cut off so you can't see what the names of the states are. It's much better than the freezing that occurred, but it is still annoying.
Hi J,
Sorry to hear that you've run into an issue with this as well. Do you happen to have a screenshot of how your Storyline application looks open and showing these elements cut off? It'd be best to see the entire screen if possible or at least that half showing how it ends but there are other screen elements behind/under it?
I know you mentioned uninstalling and repairing the registry, so I just want to make sure you went through all the steps documented here.

Thanks for the quick response Ashley.
Yes, I went through those steps; this seems to be the only thing I've come across so far. The red arrows are added in to show where the cut off occurs. Resizing using the slide bar bottom right, or top right makes no difference.
Thanks again,
Joshua
Hi Joshua,
It looks like you replied via email, so attachments and images are not uploaded here. You'll want to visit the forum page to include the info using the "add attachment" button.
Let's try this then.
Hi J,
Thanks for sharing the image. What version of windows are you using? Have you checked the DPI setting - you'll want to confirm you're using a DPI of 96 as detailed here.
I updated to Windows 11 same time as troubleshooting other things, checked the dpi and it is 96.
I'm going to assume you mean Windows 10 - and if so, Storyline 1 isn't officially supported and that may account for the display issues.
Fair enough. As I say, it's a niggling issue rather than anything dire. Thanks again.
