Storyline - Creating References from a Drop-Down Menu Interaction

Feb 17, 2021

I am attempting to create a module with drop-down menu interactions that present the selections on the following slide. I am thinking that it requires variables and references when a user selects an item from the drop-down menu but not sure exactly how to do this. Any suggestions are helpful!

It doesn't look like it is setup for the user to select anything.  There needs to be a trigger that adjusts the variable based on the user's choice.  I would create a selected state for each of the dropdown menus and make them a button set.  Then, when a user makes a choice, the variable will update.

EXAMPLE:

Under the PRONOUN group, user clicks "I."  "I" is selected.  The PRONOUN text variable is set to "I."

Does this make sense?

This sample presents the choices on the next slide. I also made some guesses about what you are trying to do, and set up the next slide so the choices could be moved around. i saved your original Choices slide, and named it choices original.

If I may offer some unsolicited help.

Making a group for a button is not a good idea;

Groups don't play well with other objects, and especially not with triggers. I suggest you delete the text box, right click the rectangle, and edit the text, placing it directly on the rectangle.

Some grammar suggestions. The selections labelled "NOUNS" are all things you can do, meaning they are verbs. The noun forms would be collaboration, commitment, competition, and cooperation.  The selections labelled ADJECTIVES are all adverbs. One of the major indicators is that they all end in "ly". You can use them to modify either of the verb forms, but they don't make sense if used to modify the pronouns. Adjectives modify nouns and pronouns, while verbs are modified by adverbs.
