Storyline Curious

Oct 23, 2013

I just signed in and will soon be exploring Storyline and its features. I have used Flash all this time although I don't know how they compare. Maybe they don't, and I have a feeling Storyline will draw me away from Flash, especially with its compatilibity with mobile devices There's one feature I hope I can be clarified though. Is there a way to restrict Storyline content to run only in a specific domain, and not anywhere else? I would appreciate any insights into what makes Storyline preferable to Flash. Thank you so much.

Hi Celito and welcome to Heroes!

I'll let the community weigh in on their ideas and thoughts about Storyline vs. Flash - but I did want to reply to your one question about features. Storyline doesn't have a way to restrict what domain users are accessing the course through, but I have seen some community members write javascript code that will track where they've viewed it so that the information could be access later by the course administrator. This is not something we offer support for, but the community is great at helping others out as you look towards implementing something like this.

Hi Celito,

Welcome to the community. I think you will find Storyline to be a very nice tool to use.

As for your second question - like Ashley said, you may find some coding method to accomplish this - but, depending on how/where you host the content (LMS, etc.), I imagine you'll be able to make those restrictions there.

Many thanks for your generous replies. I have some e-learning courses in Flash where i had a code that shut downs the lesson if it is running outside my domain. The idea was to just restrict it to and be viewed only in a specific domain and make unauthorized downloads irrelevant. There's a widget for Captivate that does the same. I was breezing through the Storyline menus and noticed that there's a box about "Allow downloads" when publishing. I assume that downloads will not be allowed if this is not checked. If so this would be good and will achieve the same purpose. Based on your replies, I think I have this assurance already. I'm almost certain this can be coded, if necessary.

Once again thank you. I'm enjoying it here already.
