Storyline customised quiz

Nov 29, 2016

Hello,

I have designed a quiz in storyline that consist of freeform and non-freeform slides. I have added variables and triggers to calculate the number of answered questions and number of correct answers. However the variable doesn't calculate the numbers of given answers if the participant clicks "next" and skips answering altogether. Is there a way in which I could force the participants to give answer in a non-freeform quiz?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello Magdalena!

You can create a trigger to change the state of the Next button to disabled when the timeline starts, and another trigger to change the state of the Next button to Normal once the user has met certain conditions, like choosing an answer or clicking a custom Submit button. It might help if I could see exactly how your slide is set up - that will determine how your second trigger will work. If you don't mind, could you attach your file here so I can take a closer look?

Hi Alyssa,

Thank you very much for your answer. It solved the issue. However I have another issue. I have designed a drag and drop slide and when I drag and drop incorrect answer it shows me immediate feedback that the answer is incorrect. However, when I drag and drop the correct answer, it goes directly to the next slide without showing the feedback. When I click on Previous slide then it shows the correct feedback.I checked all the triggers and I can't figure out where is the bug. I have attached this question and I would appreciate your feedback.  Thank you!

Hi again! I took a peek into your file, and I can see how it jumps to the next slide immediately when the answer is correct. I noticed you were using a 'Pick One' interaction for this question, but I wanted to try converting it to a 'Drag and Drop' to see if that would simplify things. Since you're using two drop targets, I added a transparent rectangle over both drop targets. Now instead of two drop targets, you only have one, and you can drop "Warranty" and "Utility" anywhere on the transparent rectangle and get the answer correct.

The only issue that remains is how the user will proceed to the next slide after they get the answer correct or incorrect. I might suggest adding a custom "Continue" button to your correct and incorrect layers.

Take a look at the changes I made here, and let me know if this will work for you! If not, we'll keep at it!

Hi Alyssa,

Thank you very much for your help. I can see that the solution sorted something out but I would rather find a way to modify or add a trigger to work in my design. I have managed to find a way to avoid going to the next slide but the feedback is still not coming first. Have a look at the changes I made.

Hi Magdalena,

Thanks for sharing your updated file. I can see how the correct answer still skips to the next slide without first displaying the Correct layer. I tried to tweak a few triggers, but I had no luck in finding a solution.  At this stage I would recommend reaching out to our Support Engineers directly so they can investigate further. Be sure to share your case number here so we can follow along and relay helpful info in this thread for anyone else in the community that may encounter the same problem! :)
