Storyline Feedback/States question

Apr 01, 2016

I've attached a screenshot explanation and my failed Storyline attempt here to illustrate my question.

I set up a relatively simple drag-and-drop exercise.  I'd like the same feedback to show every time an incorrect item is dropped on slot 1.  The items on the left would still have drop targets, but the feedback layer would be identical if any item was incorrectly dropped on # 1.  And a different feedback layer would come up if any item was incorrectly dropped on # 2.  etc.

Does that make sense?  I cannot do this with Object-dropped-on because with that I've learned that the trigger to return the item to it's starting place is broken.   So,I thought I could do it with states, but I'm still trying to figure it out.

Any thoughts?

Hi Sanal,

Thank you for the response.  My apologies, I should have been clearer.  I have this set up so that the items return to their start points if dropped outside a correct target.

That's where I'm having the trouble.  If I do Object-dropped-on, the trigger to return the item to it's starting place is broken...at least I think so.

That's the same issue in the Storyline file you sent back to me.

I thought I could do it with states and conditions (Show layer Slot 1 when State on any of certain items are "Drop Incorrect").  But then in the conditions, I need to specify that the "Drop Incorrect" is only for a certain Slot, but I can't figure out how to do that.

Does that make sense?

Hi Amit,

When you start adding additional triggers to the drag and drop, it'll override the built in behavior such as the "return drag items to start" which sounds like what you're running into.

Your design that you're looking to set up makes sense, but I think you'll need to forego the built in options such as snapping back if you'd like to devise it as such.

Yes, I understand.  That's why I'm trying to do it with states.  I just need to figure out how to do the following (as I wrote above):

Trigger:  Show layer Slot 1 when State on any of certain items are "Drop Incorrect"

Condition:  I need to specify that the "Drop Incorrect" is only for a certain Slot, but I can't figure out how to do that.
