Storyline file getting quite large

May 15, 2013

Hiya,

Does storyline not overwrite files as you reimport them?

I have a project that is on the verge of being unmanageable to hand back and forth between designers. It seems to exponentially get larger as I reimport a file of the same name. Logic would dictate an overwrite, but sadly this doesnt seem to be the case.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

That seems a bit strange. Are you updating a local file?

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

That's the only thing that comes to mind. If you are working locally when you update the file, I wonder if some sort of corruption has occurred from passing it back and forth.

It might help to import the slides from the original course into a new, blank Storyline file:

Let me know if you see any improvement.

Thanks!
