Storyline file will not save. System is giving a CorruptedData error. Please help.

Mar 07, 2016

I created a file and have been working on it for a few weeks with now issues. Needed to change the narrator, started adding the new audio files and half way through system will no longer allow me to save. Instead gives me the "CorrputedData" error. Please help. I need to have this file completed by COB 8 March.

I am using Storyline 2 with the latest updates. The file size is ~183,843 kb containing 42 narrated slides. Only changing the audio file, all other items staying the same.

You could try (if you haven't already) doing a save as and saving to a short file path 9non network drive0.  If that doesnt work then there is a chance you have lost your work so the final thing you could try is ensure auto recovery is on and switch off your machine and then restart and open the file it should auto recover (it may still not save though.

I said to switch off your machine as if you close storyline and choose not to save the auto recovery file will be removed.

You may want to see if anyone else has any other options before trying my second option as it is a bit drastic and may not work.

Hi, James --   Thanks so much for your question and I'm really sorry to hear about your Articulate Storyline project file. There is a chance it could be corrupt beyond recovery. However, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files.

Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

You may also want to see this article for details additional troubleshooting steps that may help, and here is another post on a similar topic that you may want to review.

And in the hopes of avoiding corruption in the future, please see this article for our recommendations on how to Create, Edit, and Publish Articulate Storyline Courses on Your Local Hard Drive

Please let us know if you are all set or still need more help! :)

Greetings All,

Thanks for the quick responses. I ended up, shutting down the computer, clearing the cache and re-opening the file. Good news. Bad news.

Bad news: I could not recover the work I lost from the hours I put in over the weekend. Also, the file would not allow me to add any additional work.

Good news: I was able to import the contents of the "corrupted" file to a fresh file and work from there. (saving every 2 minutes)

Moral of the story: SAVE OFTEN.

Once, I have completed this work, I will circle back and try to figure out the issue with the corrupted file. Thanks for all the assistance

Sorry that's happening, Suryakant! I can help you sort this out.

First, double check that you're working from your local hard drive, since network and flash drives can cause all kinds of problems.

If you're already working locally, click here to open a case with our Support team, and attach your file to that form.  We'll test the file and let you know what we find!
