Storyline Font Issues

Jun 21, 2017

Hi there! :)

This is my first post here, happy to read and meet you all!

I'm currently working in a course I received where I had to install some fonts, specifically fonts Scoud and ScoutCond. However, when opening the module it apparently looks good and showing the new fonts but the formatting is still not correct and when clicking in some text boxes the text is moved automatically and it does not allow me to revert the change by clicking the undo arrow.

I've tried installing again the fonts with Storyline closed and restarting the machine but no luck.

I've had similar issues with another presentations where I had to install new fonts. A colleague has the same fonts installed and all works/looks correctly in her machine though.

Any ideas why this could be happening? Thanks in advance!

After you install the fonts, when you go to a text box and change the font, it is very possible that the layout of the text in the box will change. Minuscule changes in letter size can sometimes cause lines to wrap at different spots, so yes, you should expect to have to make changes.

As to the undo arrow; to be charitable, not everything that I think is a change is stored in that queue. As a result, some things that should be are not candidates to be undone, and some things which shouldn't be are. Sometimes half a dozen clicks will undo one change, and sometimes one click will undo half a dozen changes. If I'm doing potentially serious work, I save after a successful change, and exit without saving after each bargled change that can't be undone. Knowing how long that takes helps me gauge if the potential change is serious enough to warrant such drastic steps, but it's the only way to be certain.

Hi Walt thanks for your quick answer.

However I don't think this is something 'normal', the module has been created with those fonts and it's a final version, so everything should be looking correctly if I have them installed?

Some text boxes are expanded and the text goes out of the screen, there is more space between sentences than there should be, and the format is automatically lost with no possibility to revert it back than closing the presentation and opening it again when clicking in some text boxes for editing them.

Opening the module in another machine is working but for some reason is not working in mine.

Hi Alejandro,

If you didn't have the fonts installed initially when you opened it Storyline will change it to a standard system font. Once you've installed the fonts, if you went to access the same file the previous fonts that Storyline changed it too were likely saved in there.

Can you try deleting that copy from your computer and downloading a new copy that your colleague shared? Also you'll want to make sure that if you're sharing files between computers you're following along with the steps here.

Hi Ashley! Thanks for your reply.

I tried what you proposed but still no luck... will take those steps into consideration for future presentations though. I also noticed the font showing in my presentation is different from the one my colleague is seeing in her machine although it says it's the same one, don't know what is happening since I installed the same fonts as her.

Gosh - I'm sorry the fonts are still not coming through for you. Were you following along with those steps for sharing files? Working off the network/shared drive could have introduced an element of corruption and that could also explain it.

If you'd like me to give it a try, I'd be happy too! I'd need a copy of the font files and the .story file that is causing the trouble.
