Hi there Phil! Sorry you ran into that error. Here's how you can get back up and running!
Close Storyline.
Go to the Start menu and locate your Storyline app.
Right-click Storyline and select Run as administrator. (In some versions of Windows 10, you need to right-click Storyline, scroll to More, then select Run as administrator.)
User Account Control may ask, "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?"Click Yes.
We got it up and running, thank you. Any idea why that would happen?

I'm having the same problem, but when I request a new activation code Articulate provides a message saying (You need to create an Outlook profile) My email is already open so not sure thy it's doing this?
Here's how to reactivate Storyline after upgrading Windows:
Close Storyline.

User Account Control may ask, "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?" Click Yes.
If the activation wizard appears, follow these intructions. Otherwise, Storyline is ready for use.

Also, good question! It's tough to say, but it's likely from a Windows environment change – like a Windows update or reinstall.

Were you able to take a look at the steps Alyssa shared above?
Are you using Outlook as your mail provider? It sounds like it may be set up as the default on your computer.
