I have a layout that I need to edit by changing all of the circles to rectangles. However, every time I go to Format > Change Shape, Storyline keeps automatically adding about 60 seconds on to the timeline. I have a lot of shapes I need to change so by the time I'm finished, the timeline is out to over 1200 seconds! Does anyone know why it is doing this and is there a fix?? It's rather annoying to have to adjust the timeline every time you need to change a shape. Thanks!
Hi Ali. I am using Storyline 2 and it is updated to the most recent version. Unfortunately the issue isn't unique to the file I'm working with- this has happened with every project I've had where I need to change a shape for as long as I can remember, so I don't think it's a bug specific to any one file, or to this current version of SL.
If it's any help, I just noticed that this issue seems to only be happening when I try to change a shape that is in a group- SL is not adding time to the timeline when I change a shape that is not in a group.
Definitely odd- and not something I've run into before. Where are your files saved to? Are you working directly from your local machine (C:Drive or Desktop) or are you working from a network drive?
Hi, I'm currently using Storyline 360 and I can confirm the problem is still there. Sometime I'm working on a 30 sec slide and a few moments later the timeline is now 567 sec!?
I am using the latest version but I don't know when this is happening. I just noticed sometimes, and I'm not the only one in the office, that my time line is way longer than it was before I started my modifications.
You'll want to make sure that your always working locally on your machine when authoring in Storyline. Working from a network can cause erratic behavior due to latency- such as (but not limited to) file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources.
Let me know if the same behavior happens when you're working from your C:Drive or Desktop!
Thanks Xavier - that's a method we've seen a few times shared in ELH, so I'm glad it helped you shorten your timeline as well! As Ali mentioned, working off a network/shared drive is known to cause some odd behaviors in your file - so keep that in mind as you start new projects!

Hey Lea,
Well that's a weird one- sorry you're running into it! I can help.
I have a few questions for you to start here:
Keep me posted!

Since it's happening in all your files, I recommend running this repair on your software.
Let me know if that does the trick!

Thanks for that additional info Lea- our replies crossed over a little there ☺️
I tried to reproduce what you're describing and I'm still not seeing it happen when my objects are grouped:
Let me know if you're doing something different! If not, try running that repair I mentioned above!
Hey Xavier,
Sorry that's happening to you as well-- I can definitely understand the frustration!
Just to confirm- are you running the latest update for Storyline 360 and finding that the timeline lengthens when changing a grouped shape?

From a network

Thanks for letting me know!
