Storyline lets learners answer the question again in the quiz section if learner hasn't clicked "NEXT" in feedback layer of the question (even if question is set to be answered once only)

Hi everyone,

I had this issue where upon publising storyline course, it lets learners answer the question again in the quiz section if learner hasn't clicked "NEXT" in feedback layer of the question (even if question is set to be answered once only). I contacted support and after so many weeks of discussion and troubleshooting - they found out that the suspend_data is only submitted to the LMS when a user leaves a slide (for quiz section - going to the next question slide). This means that any form of slide layer/feedback layer, result or normal will not submit suspend_data when viewed. Once again, suspend data is only submitted at the slide level.

So if learner answers a question, click submit and feedback layer appears then for some reason learner exits browser (to exit course) then resume again - because suspend_data wasn't submitted - learner can now answer the question again thus letting them "cheat" as they can answer the question multiple time if they keep exiting browser while on feedback layer (and not clicking to go to the next slide).

One workaround that Articulate suggested is to remove feedback layer which means after answering question and clicking submit, learner will be directed to the next question. We have always used FEEDBACK LAYER, so it's a bit disappointing that we have to compromise to avoid this issue. In my view, Articulate should have developed their program cheat-proof (especially for quiz as most of the time it is graded - like in ours it will always be graded).

At the moment, Joshua who has been a great tech support, can only submit a request to have the suspend_data submitted anytime the 'submit' trigger is fired thus ensuring that when a learner submits their responses using the 'submit' button (no matter if there is a feedback layer or not), even if they exit the course and resume, it won't let the learner answer the question again to modify their response. I recently got an update from him, that the feature request submitted has yet to get any updates or additional customers requesting the same. I hope more people will know about this behaviour in quiz section and will report it to Articulate so they will be obliged to fix it.

Thank you.
