Storyline Neo Help needed -

Jun 04, 2020

First let me say I am learning on the fly.  I am converting a ppt to Storyline. Two issues:

  • My checkmarks appear when I click on the button. Solution I want is to click the button go to the slide, answer question, press continue on the slide, return to main menu, and checkbox appears on the button.
  • I created a freeform that keeps looping to my first slide even when I click on button for next or subsequent slides

Thank you.

I am having all kinds of challenges.  In this instance

  • for A3 Storyline, I am trying to require the user to answer.  I am also not sure about the interactivity triggers.
  • for A1 it relates to the checkmark.

All help appreciated.  I have looked for videos.

Hi Kenji,

Happy to help! For A1, since you're trying to communicate changes across slides, I recommend using variables.

Specifically, creating a True/False variable for each button, and once the learner completes a question slide, it will tell the Menu that the question is complete and show the checkmark. I first had to clean up Button 1 since you grouped it unnecessarily. I also added a Completed state to retain the checkmark since a Visited contains built-in functionality you don't want. Here are my steps:

  1. Create a True/False variable and set the default to False.
  2. In the Thank You Layer of Question 1, I created a trigger to adjust the variable to True.
  3. In the Menu slide, I created a trigger to change the state of Button 1 to Completed when the timeline starts if the variable is True.

Take a look at the edited file attached and use it to update the rest of your buttons!

For A3, I didn't notice any kind of loop when I previewed the course, but if you wanted to ensure a correct slide order, I would change the Jump to next slide trigger to specify which slide you'd like to jump to on each slide and slide layer.

I hope these tips help!
