Storyline on Parallels VM

Apr 25, 2020

I have been running a Parallels VM on my Mac Pro 13 for some time now.

About 2 years ago I upgraded the Mac Hard Drive to a 2tb SSD hard drive due to only having the 250gb standard Mac hard drive.

Since this upgrade I have had issues with the VM shutting the computer down particularly when using Articulate Storyline.

I have updated the Mac to the latest OS Catalina along with various Parallels updates (15) and now Windows 8.1 - Windows 10, though to no advantage as shut downs still occurring.

I have since purchased a MacBook pro to give myself an alternative to the Mac Pro and it is set up with all the latest as per the Mac Pro. It doesn't shut down though keeps coming up with errors when using Articulate Storyline. Actually, also has a problem using Power Point 16 in the Office Sweet on the VM.

Any thoughts on this, it is very frustrating as I am now needing to use Storyline a lot due to the current times and need to move much more online.

Any help, guidance , advice appreciated.

Hi there, Peter!

Thanks for sharing what you're seeing, and for opening a support case. I'm sharing Eric's tips publicly in case others are facing a similar obstacle:

  • For important best practices on using Articulate software on a Mac with Parallels, check out this resource. (Specifically, the Work Exclusively in the Windows Environment and Disable the Shared Profile sections.)
  •  Increase the storage allocation in your Parallels desktop to accommodate Storyline.
  • It might also help to uninstall and reinstall your Articulate software after disabling shared profiles.

Let us know if you have any more questions. We're happy to help!
