Storyline Playback - Intermittent issues with Google Chrome

Jun 05, 2013

After publishing a course to both our LMS and Articulate Online, we are experiencing issues intermittently where the content fails to load, or the resources tab won't work.

I have verified that the user is running the latest version of Flash, Quicktime and various other plugins but the problem still persists.

I was able to get it to play back fine on my Windows 7 machine with Google Chrome and IE. So my question is this: beyond the basic system requirements found here, are there any other considerations to take into account?

I am just trying to put together a "best practice" list for clients who are going to view our online courses, so we can ensure they have the best experience possible.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi Josh,

Do they experience the same intermittent issues if they view the course in a different web browser?

Have they tried clearing their browser cache?

Also, do you know what version of Chrome they have installed?

It's difficult to pinpoint an issue that seems to be machine or browser-specific, especially when it's not constant. I'm afraid there's quite a few things that could be causing the issue. It could be related to security settings, extensions in Chrome, etc.

Hopefully the user will be able to get this working properly. If not, it might be best to have them try another browser when accessing the course or even try reinstalling Chrome.

Thanks!

Well I guess I wasn't very clear about my question. I am sure that I can get her into another browser just fine, I'm not worried about a particular user. I was more or less asking if Articulate had a "best case scenario" setup that we could recommend to clients. So we can set them up for a good experience by recommending that they run X browser with X release of Flash or Quicktime. Is there anything like that?

Is it preferable to run the elearning courses in Safari, IE, Firefox, Chrome or Opera?

Hopefully that clears things up for you.

Thanks

Hi Josh,

The recommendations listed in the article you mentioned earlier are the base requirements. Obviously, experience may vary from machine to machine and issues can arise with any web content, whether it be Articulate content or other content.

Personally, I would suggest making sure that your users have access to updated browsers, Flash and Java.

It also depends on the type of content you're going to be producing. For example, HTML5 content runs best in Google Chrome. I/we usually suggest this browser for that type of content, simply because it's just better at handling it. For example, check out http://html5test.com/

There are a lot of best practice threads, articles, blogs and other resources out there, but they're usually project or output specific.

Thanks! :)

I have seen best practice threads, articles and blogs. I wanted to get a recommendation straight from the producer of the software I am using. Not a end user who has had "good luck" with a certain browser.

I guess what I can glean from what you posted above is that "browsers are unpredictable". I am a little surprised that in addition to baseline requirements, Articulate doesn't have a "optimal settings and configurations" page.
