Storyline Player and Power Point

Nov 09, 2012

Hi Articulate Storyline Community,

Is there a way I can insert a published Storyline project into a Power Point? I want to be able to insert the Storyline player in a Power Point project so I can utilize projects created in Storyline in combination with Power Point Projects created by others within our organization.

Thanks

Hi Barb!

There's a helpful thread here that discusses this topic. Brian Batt posted a helpful guide that shows how to import a Storyline project as a web object into PowerPoint. If you're not using Presenter, you can download it for a 30 day free trial, here.

I'll add his screencast for you, as well:

I know it may not be exactly what you're trying to accomplish, but I hope this helps!

Hi Christine,

Thank you, this is getting me closer to what I'm trying to accomplish. It would be great if I could just insert the swf right into PP07. Every time I try to the Articulate player wheel is the only thing that appears. I want this process to be as user friendly as possible for those not so techie individuals.

Can you answer this, after I download Presenter will I still have access to the Power Point add ins after the 30 days?

Hi Barb!

Thanks for getting back to me. Regarding the wheel - make sure that the project you're inserting is a local file. Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior. Also, if you've only previewed this presentation, try testing it in a published state.

Regarding the Presenter add-ins - If you keep the software for longer than 30 days, you will need to activate it. If you decide you don't want to activate it, you can remove the Studio '09 software. This won't effect your installation of Storyline, because they are two different packages.

Hi Christine,

Sorry for the delay in responding back to you. I'm still unable to get the swf to work in PP07. It was pointing to the local drive and the published file works great as long as I don't try to insert it into PP07 (LOL). Unfortunately, purchasing Presenter for all our instructors is NOT an option right now that is why I'm looking for this work around.

Thank You

The reason you get the wheel is because the story.swf file depends on external files to work. The Data.swf and the Frame.swf are two files that if missing will result in the wheel. So you can't just import the story.swf file. I'm not sure if you save all the files in the same directory will allow the story.swf file to refer to these external sources even if you keep all the files together.
