Storyline Player Issues in Firefox and Edge

Jun 27, 2018

I created and published a Storyline 360 lecture (Windows 10) using the Modern Player (HTML5 Only). Last week, the lecture played beautifully in all browsers with no issues. This week (perhaps browser updates?), it doesn't. When viewed in Chrome, it plays as expected with no issues of the player size changing. When viewed in Firefox or Edge, the size of the player changes from slide-to-slide and sometimes when on a slide. When on a slide, the player starts small and then gets bigger. This seems to happen on ALL slides in the lecture.

I've attached three screenshots from the lecture showing you the difference in sizes. And, I've checked my Storyline 360 file to see if there's a setting that needs to be changed and can't find one.

This is driving my client crazy and I need a fix ASAP, if possible.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am having similar issues on the same two browsers when publishing modern player to our LMS - D2L.  Player somewhat randomly becomes small, then eventually normal size on a following slide. Curiously, once slides display normally, previous slides look ok, too, at least for a while. No issues with classic player. Attached is a story file.

Welcome, Dean! Really sorry you're experiencing similar behavior with your course–I'd love to help sort this out!

I uploaded your course to SCORM Cloud where I was unable to recreate what you're describing in Firefox and Edge–here's the published course and a Peek of my testing (I began with Chrome > Firefox > Edge).

To start, could you let me know what happens when you test my published course? This will tell us if the resizing issue is mostly related to your Storyline or LMS' output. Additionally, does this happen on particular slides? I'll be standing by!

Thanks, Katie. The output you provided works fine. I concur the issue is related to the LMS output in those browsers. In Firefox, the resizing to smaller size occurs in the second slide. Clicking previous will restore to the correct size for all slides. In Edge, the first slide and subsequent slides are small - clicking through a few slides, then clicking previous to the first slide will restore to the correct size. Setting the player to open in a new window solves the issue, but creates navigation confusion for our learners.

Similar resizing issues occurred with the classic player. Solved when the player was set to lock to optimal size. No similar option in the modern player?

Hey Dean,

The modern player scales smoothly to completely fill the learner’s browser on every device and screen size, so there isn't an option to "Lock player at optimal size". With the classic player, you can choose to lock the size, which means it may not fit in every browser window.

This has been a feature request by users, so I'll be sure to add your voice to that request though.

Thank you for sharing the additional details of your testing.
