Storyline Pre-loader question

Aug 26, 2015

Hello all,

I'd like to get some opinions on the best structure for my latest course/s:

This course applies to three different business units, Store, Warehouse & Corporate.

  • Course content is generic across all three business units
  • There is around 10mb of video content specific to each unit
  •  Business unit specific character packs

I'm guessing it would be more efficient (and quicker for the learner to view) if I create 3 separate courses each with their respective video and business unit character set hard coded within?

or

Would one branched course calling the relevant videos and characters have no negative impact on loading times?

Essentially, If I have one scorm package containing 30mb of video (3 x 10mb per business unit) will the learner have to download all 30mb to view the 10mb of video that applies to their business unit or does the pre-loader dynamically determine the video content to load based on learners branching choice?

Any additional information on how the pre-loader prioritises video content would also be welcomed.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Thanks for the info on the pre-loader Matthew, that's really helpful.

I was curios to see if you could channel the preload through scenes but it doesn't seem to be the case.

We've previously used externally hosted video for a separate issue relating to our LMS proxy settings and iOS but that's now resolved so wherever possible we'll keep our video content within the scorm for IP security reasons.

For these courses I'll just stick with three separate versions for each business unit.

Thanks again
Mark
