Storyline Published File Flickers When Viewed on External Screen on Internet Explorer 11

Jun 11, 2019

Hi all,

My client is reviewing content from a Storyline file published for LMS (Scorm 1.2) on internet explorer 11. When the content is viewed on the original laptop screens it plays fine, however when they view it on an external screen using a  Dell PRO2X dock-station, the slides glitch and flicker around.

I've attached their system technical specifications.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Joel. Sorry that you and your client are running into this problem!

Appreciate you sharing the specs, and so strange that the flicker only happens when viewing on an external screen. I'd love to help investigate, and have a few clarifying questions:

  • What version and update of Storyline are you using?
  • Does the flickering happen on other browsers?
  • Would you mind sharing the published output with us? It'll help us get a clear picture of what's going on in an external monitor environment, and we'll delete it after troubleshooting. You can send that Storyline file to us privately in a case here.

Hi Katie,

I built the module in Storyline 3, update 5:3.5.165480.

We tested the module with  Internet Explorer 11 which is the only browser the client is allowed to use on their system.

Unfortunately I cannot share the original content so I have stripped down the module so I don't breach contract with the client.

Just a note. We have tested the e-Learning module on our side on laptop screens, external TV screens using multiple browsers and it works fine. The glitches only happen when previewed on the clients docking system.

Appreciate this additional insight, Joel!

Hm, curious if it might be related to the video driver. To be sure, I asked our senior Support staff to have a closer look at your case so we can get to the bottom of the flickering.

I see Victor reached out with the next steps, and I'll follow along as the case progresses!
