Storyline & Publishing as SCORM - what about included assets?

Jul 15, 2014

Hi all,

I'm using Storyline to create 'self-contained' presentations that I want to include files (PDF & Word), multimedia (audio clips as MP3, and video) I'm not quite sure how to do the multi-media bits.

For documents I used the "insert>hyperlink" and browsed for my file(s).

For video, I used an embed code provided by YouTube with the Insert Video>from website option, but I don't know how to enable the closed captioning. (Very important for my project). Also, if I use the embed code and the video is taken down or removed; will the video still be part of the SCORM package? (I guess I'm asking if the SCORM object runs out to the Youtube site and plays the video from there.

I don't want to use URL's or embed code that can "go bad" in the future if at all possible. And I'm not sure SCORM preserves these external-web-based assets so this would not be an issue. Do I have to download the video in its entirety and then link to it as a file? The video files I'm using are on YouTube and Creative Commons licensed so I suppose if I HAD to download them I could... just have to figure out HOW!

Any suggestions, resources are greatly appreciated!

Hi Penny,

If you're concerned that the hyperlinks or videos may be removed from the web you'll want to provide an actual copy of the file (say PDF, or mp4 video, etc.) within the Storyline file itself, as using the hyperlink or embed code is directing to where those resources are located currently. As for the Youtube video, there are a few items here on how to add elements such as closed captioning.

Hope that helps!

Hi Ashley!

Yes, thank you so much! I'll look more closely at the resources you sent as well. I understand the issue as it applies to my project: Put everything in Storyline that needs to be absolutely preserved (no reliance on outside links to videos/images/audio etc.) as anything on the Internet can be gone tomorrow (or worse, moved!)

As usual, eHeros comes though again!
