StoryLine Quiz Audio Feedback Bug?

May 22, 2013

I wanted to insert audio sounds as feedback for each correct and incorrect question in my StoryLine quiz. I first tried doing so for each question using the More on the feedback form, and then inserting the appropriate sound from an audio file. However, when I previewed the quiz, the correct audio sound was playing to wrong answers. When I checked the audio on the layers, in many slides, the incorrect sound was overwritten by the correct sound.

I did a workaround by directly inserting the appropriate audio files into the Correct and Incorrect Layers for each quiz slide.

No sure that this is a known bug, but it is NOT working as expected.

Thanks,

Russ

Hi there Russ,

I haven't seen this issue before. Are you able to recreate this and share a .STORY file, so I can take a quick look?

Also, can you tell me a little more about when this happens and your setup, please?

Are the project files on your local hard drive?

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

What version of Storyline you're currently running? You can find this by clicking on "Help" and "About Articulate Storyline".

Does the audio play incorrectly when you're previewing the course, after you've published, or both? If it only happens after you publish, how are you viewing the published content? Are you viewing it in a web server, LMS, CD, etc.?

Thanks very much Russ!

Christine,

I was able to replicate the problem and was about to upload the Story file. However, I noticed that Update 3 was available and figured I better install it first to see whether it had any effect on the problem. Guess what - when I opened and previewed the quiz after installation of Update 3, the correct audio sounds were in place.

Problem solved! Thank you.

Hi Vanessa,

It looks like Russ had the problem solved using update 3, and we're currently on update 5 - is that the update you're using? Did you also check into Christine's previous suggestions?
