Storyline Quiz Questions Missing Submit Button

I am helping a new Storyline user with his project. His quiz questions are missing the submit button and will not let you click the answers. His questions are set to have a Submit button with Next and Back turned off, but when I publish his course, I see Next and Back buttons and no Submit. When I remove the Results slide, the quizzes work fine. Add the Results slide back, they don't work. Any ideas on why this is happening? He is using a question bank with 13 questions that pull a random 10. All are scored at 10 point each, with 80% passing. There is no quiz time limit.

Hi Kevin,
Do you only see this behavior in Publish? What about in Preview? I was just taking a look and during preview the submit button is there and everything works normally. If you're only seeing it in publish can you tell me how you've published and where you've uploaded a copy of the published output?
Also, did you confirm that you're both using the same update/version of Storyline? The latest is Storyline 2 Update 11.
Works great in Preview. Also, if you click on the last menu item and then Next click to the Quiz, the quiz works. But, if you let the course play from the beginning, when it gets to the Quiz you see this problem. Published for LMS, and using Storyline 2 Update 11. As for where I've uploaded. I have the tested the problem while uploaded to the PeopleSoft LMS while launched from the LMS, also from the server on the LMS where it resides by using a direct link and not launching through LMS, and I have viewed it directly from the published folder on my local drive. Same behavior in all conditions. Using IE 11 to view. About to do a test in Chrome. I'll let you know what I see.
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for sharing that. I publish for LMS and uploaded to SCORM Cloud here, and I was able to get to the quiz (after a lot of clicking) and see the submit button and answer questions. I didn't go all the way through to the end, as that seemed to work for the first few, but can you give it a check as well? I was testing this in the latest update of Chrome as well.
I did the same thing, and it worked in Chrome. I was running it local. I got the Chrome error message about running local. So I viewed the HTML5 output. That worked. So, the problem is IE 11. I believe I did a test in IE where I did Next clicks to jump through all the slides, and it worked. But if I let the guy's course just play and auto branch, that is when it doesn't work. I originally thought it was a quiz timer issue. And, when I first got the guy's file, it had a timer to turn off the quiz after 2 hours. I changed that, and it seemed to work for me, and I posted that solution on your site here. But, that was me clicking Next through each slide. Testing by letting the course autobranch has shown that the quiz timer wasn't the cause. By the way, we had several people try this in the past from their home computers using whatever browser they had, including Macs with Safari. The Mac people were fine, but the PC people reported this same problem, all using IE.
Hi Kevin,
Were you able to replicate the behavior with the version I uploaded? I also tested it in IE11 on a PC and that one worked normally for me as well. Testing the published output locally isknown to cause issues and things to not behave as expected so I would not recommend that as a testing method to rely on.
I watched it from the link you provided and got the same problem. I am uploading a screen capture. I did not click Next. You might try launching the course and just letting it play in the background for 30 minutes until it gets to the first slide. That would be a good test to figure out if the problem is something on our network or with our browser configuration.
This evening, I watched from home to see if our corporate network or browser might be the cause. I watched the course from the link you provided above on my home computer using both IE and Chrome. Same problem with both. If you let the course play and autobranch through all of the content, when you get to the quiz, there is no Submit. If you jump to the last few slides in the menu and then next click to the quiz, it works. It also works if you quickly next click through the entire course.
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for those directions,, and I'm able to see what you're describing now. I don't see anything in the course that I think would cause this, other than that each slide does have two navigation methods which is unusual but shouldn't cause the problem especially as it does work in Preview.
I am going to open up a case on your behalf, so you'll see an email confirmation of that shortly. This way you can work directly with one of our Support engineers on this odd behavior.
Hi,
Apologies for hijacking your post but I am having this very same issue, was the problem resolved? and if so how?
Many thanks
I gave the file to Articulate Support and they found the problem. The developer had mistakenly added a trigger to the first slide in the course that submitted the quiz results upon timeline start. So the quiz results were submitted before you ever got the quiz. Check your triggers and look for a submit results prior to the quiz.

Thanks Kevin for that update and also just an FYI that responding via email includes your signature here. Since it looks like your post was also duplicated and appeared here twice I went ahead and deleted the one with your signature.
Hi Karen,
If you need us to take a look at your file you can upload it here at the bottom of the reply window using the "add attachment" button or you can send along to our Support Engineers privately here.
Hi, I'm having the same issue, with the Submit button not showing up, and instead the Next/Prev buttons showing, even though the slide properties are set to show only the Submit button. This seems to be happening randomly (fun!) Did anybody come up with a consistent fix for this issue? Screenshots attached.
Thanks!
Karen
Update: It seems like this happens only when the learner reaches a True/False question, and if I "Next" through to the Results slide and click the Retry Quiz button, it resets itself and works fine.
Hey there Karen! Isn't it fun when these kinds of problems happen randomly? 😆 That's why we're here to help!
Let's see if we can nail down why those buttons are appearing. First, what version of Storyline are you using? To check, click the Help tab, then click About Storyline.
Hi Alyssa,
I'm using Storyline 360, publishing to Articulate Review. For confidentiality reasons, I can't publicly share the review link, but I could privately. My course is too big to upload to the ScormCloud, and I'm currently awaiting upload to our company's LMS so I can try to replicate there, but fairly certain the errors will appear in LMS also.
Hey Karen! Sure, you can absolutely send your file to me privately.
And since it's a large file, I would suggest doing a Save As to create a copy of the file, then delete all slides but the quiz slides from the copy.
You can send that copy over to me by clicking here. Thanks!
Hey Karen! Thanks for sending over your file!
I went through all modules and tested every quiz slide, and I did not run into the Previous and Next button you were seeing. I saw the Submit button for all of the quiz slides.
Are you on the latest update of Storyline 360? To check, click the Help tab, then click About Storyline. You should see 3.17.16188.0 in the bottom-right corner.
Hi Alyssa,
Thank you for taking a look. Yes, I'm using the latest version of Storyline. I'll have to wait and see if others encounter the issue. I guess it's hard to troubleshoot if you can't replicate the error, huh? Thanks!
Karen
Thanks, Karen. Aside from using the latest update of Storyline 360, you'll also want to be sure your file is saved to your local hard drive. If it's saved to a network or shared drive, that could cause some unwanted issues like this.
Let me know if you find any more trends in your testing!
Hi Alyssa;
I am having the same symptom, missing "submit" buttons on the quiz slides in preview mode so I can not submit the interaction or move through the course. I have questions spread throughout the very linear course so I did not want to use the correct/incorrect feedback layers but wanted the user to be able to review the quiz questions and see the right answers if they did not pass the first time so I kept that layer. I also put a trigger into each question slide so the slide would stay in sequence by triggering move to the next slide when the user clicks on the submit button. Is this the issue that the submit button is engaging the graded quiz question answer and moving the slide? any help appreciated.
Alyssa
I will send the file privately, I tried deleting the submit button trigger that moves to the next slide and added the results slide but did not see the "submit" button appear in the preview mode. I have not tried to publish this yet as I can not get through the course due to the missing submit buttons... Any help appreciated.
I tried creating a new graded question without touching the feedback layers etc... and just input a question and true/false answer then saved and previewed slide but still did not see a submit button. I checked the results slide and it automatically added the new slide into the grading etc... so that seemed to be working. any help appreciated... I want to turn this work to client by beginning of the week.
Hi Philip,
It seems like you're in a bit of a crunch, so I took a look at your file and just sent you a reply via e-mail :)
Thanks for keeping us in the loop on your testing :) Hope that helps!
I've the same issue going on here, are you able to let us know the resolution to this issue? I'll I'm seeing is the replay icon where the submit would be.
Hi Shannon
can you share the .story file and someone may be able to help you
