Storyline Quiz redirect from question to slide back to question

Mar 07, 2013

HI Everyone!

I'm new to storyline and working my way through things - Can someone tell me if there is a tutorial that would show me how to take a user from a quiz question if they got the answer wrong back to the slide (which i can do already) my issue is how to get the user back to the quiz question so they can answer the question with out having to start the quiz over?  Thanks in advance for your time and help!

Hi Christina. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

I'm afraid I'm not following. You're wanting the learner to go back to the questions, but you don't want them to retake the quiz?

If I'm understanding correctly, then I don't think you can do this for a single question out of a quiz. If the learner wants to submit their answer again, they'll need to retry the quiz.

If you're just wanting the learner to review the questions, you can certainly do that.

Can you share a little more information about what you'd like to do?

Thanks!

Hi There! Thanks for responding.

ok so the learner goes thru a presentation at the end we have 20 questions.  If the learner is on say question 11 and  makes 2 guesses and does not get the answer correct I would like to send them back to the slide that gives the answer to the question so that they can learn from their incorrect answer and why etc.  After they review the slide I would like them to go back to question 11 and continue to answer the rest of the test questions - is that still clear as mud??

Is this even possible?

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Christina,

I think I'm getting a better idea, now

How about creating a lightbox or even some feedback that would help the learner with the question?

What you could do is provide feedback for each question. This feedback would show up on the incorrect layer for the question. You could either simply state that it's not correct and have them try again, or you could add some additional information that will help them make the right choice. This way, the learner never needs to navigate away from the question slide.

Alternatively, using a lightbox, maybe you could add an object or button on the incorrect feedback layer that would show the original slide with the details in a lightbox.

Would either of those options work for you? If you're not clear on how these would work, I could try to create a quick example.

Hi Christina,

I made a quick example using a lightbox that you may find useful For this particular example, I've pulled in a lightbox from the "Try Again" layer. So, if the learner submits the wrong answer on their first attempt, they'll have an option to review the information that was provided in an earlier slide. After closing the lightbox, they'll be able to choose a new answer and submit the question.

I'm also attaching the file, just in case you want to see how I set everything up.

If you have any questions, just let me know!

HI Christine,

- First as i was reviewing your example - which is sooo awesome by the way & I realized that I just am not a quick study :( - I am a bit stuck as to where to apply your concepts.

My program is all slides with the questions at the end (perhaps a newbie mistake) I just inserted each question  - so do I just create a results page at the end of all my questions or can i apply some layers to each question slide -  now I'm confused - perhaps i jumped before I could crawl... are there some tutorials that could explain or get me up to this point that you would suggest?

Sorry for turning out to be a bit denser that I anticipated

Hi Emily and welcome to Heroes!

It sounds like you'll need to set a trigger for when the lightbox closes to show the slide you'd like. Here is a quick tutorial on how to set up triggers within your slides. Additionally, here is an example file that demonstrates how there is a trigger set on the lightbox slide that it's set to jump to the next slide when the button is clicked. You can set the "next" slide to be the original slide or anything else you would like.

Please let us know if that helps or if you need anything else!

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with my project. I have a quiz with multiple choice questions.  I want to set it up so that the user has 3 attempts to answer the question, if they are unsuccessful after 3 attempts, I want the light box with our tutorial video to pop up, which I've figure out, but where I'm stuck is once the user re-watches the video, I want them to be able to answer the question again, as is now, it stays stuck on their third answer and doesn't allow them to move on. help!

Hi Patrick,

You'll need to include a trigger to "jump to slide" the question slide and set the slide properties to "reset to initial state" as this would allow the user to retry the question again (it will provide three attempts again).

If you're still having difficulty setting this up, it may help to share a sample of your project here for the community to take a look at.

Hi guys,

I have a related question. I'd like to give the participant the option to go back to the previous number and replace his answer without giving feedback.

So for example, he's on item #5, and he has doubts on his answer on #4, he can go back to that (and no other previous questions) to change his answer. Is that possible? And how do we do this?

Crystal Horn

Hey there, Jaybee!  This article about users submitting their answers all at once might be a helpful jumping off point.  If you want to limit that "revisit" behavior to just the previous slide and none others, I'm betting you can put variables to use to control the navigation.

Maybe someone in the community can share how they've designed a similar setup!
