Storyline Quiz - Submit All at Once, Review Quiz & Reset Quiz Q's

Apr 18, 2013

Hello...

I have some questions regarding Storyline Quizzes

1) What is the preferred way to set up a "Submit All At Once" quiz? Is it to just use the NEXT button, removing SUBMIT button from each question?

The issue we are facing is that with the SUBMIT button turned on, and FEEDBACK layers deleted, some users are experiencing delays when going through longer quizzes.

2) When a RESET RESULTS trigger is in place, does this talk to the LMS and erase the users progress?

3) Here's the tricky one with the play-by-play...

1. Quiz is completed and user fails

2. User clicks the REVIEW QUIZ button, which shows what was right and wrong in comparison to users responses.

3. User, back on the RESULTS slide clicks our custom CONTINUE button, which a) triggers a RESET RESULTS action and b) directs them to the beginning of the course.

4. When user gets back to taking the course, the quiz is cleared, but the correct answer marks are still there from the REVIEW QUIZ trigger.

How can we reset that?

Thanks in advance!

Tim

Hi there Tim,

For the answer marks that are still in place, do you mean that the answers are still in place when they try to answer the question again, or are they seeing their previous responses when reviewing the quiz a second time?

If the same questions are selected when they try to retake the quiz, it may be due to the revisiting settings for the quiz slides. Sounds like they may be set to automatic or "Resume saved state". Can you try setting the revisiting options to "Reset to initial state"?

Yes, the "Submit all at once" option is if you want to have all the questions submitted at one time, rather than one at a time. This why you're stilling the "Next" and "Previous" buttons on the question slides. When you reach the end, all of the questions will be submitted. There's one thing you may want to keep in mind, though. When you use the Prev and Next navigation buttons rather than the default Submit button for question slides, it is easy for users to skip questions without answering them.  If they reach the result slide without answering all the questions, be aware that this will impact the tabulated results.

If you're able to share the .STORY file here, I'd be happy to take a look and provide some suggestions for the course.

Thanks!

Christine

It looks like the issue I was having was only occuring when I ran locally. When I upload to our LMS, it resets itself. I have attached the screen I was referring to that indicates the right answer.

Is there a way to set up a question bank with the NEXT button, and then install a locked slide at the end of the bank that allows the user to either review answers or submit all answers at once?

Hi Tim,

Ah yes, the answers that have been marked correct that are showing up as incorrect when reviewing are usually tied to the revisiting settings. But that's working for you now, on the LMS, correct?

Not quite sure what you're asking about the "NEXT" button. You can jump to the question bank with any slide or "NEXT" button by assigning a trigger to it. You can then adjust the navigation options in the Player options, or you can simply remove the menu and buttons from the question slides themselves (which is what I prefer to do), so the learner cannot move around the course when they're on the question slides.

If that doesn't help, can you give an example of how you envision this working?

Thanks!

Tim Samp

Not sure if I can upload a file that will properly explain.

This is what we want to do...

-Set up a quiz that utilizes the NEXT button, avoiding SUBMIT on each question in order to speed up the user experience (we have found the SUBMIT button on each question slows down performance).

-On the other hand, we want to alert users if there are unanswered questions before they complete the quiz.

Basically, we want a Submit All button similar to what it would do in Presenter.

Thanks for your patience as I try to get these words out.

Hi Tim,

I'm out of the office for the weekend, but I wanted to share some information that may help in setting this up:

if you want users to answer all the questions, you may also want to review this tutorial, which describes how you can ask users to confirm that they have answered all the questions and are ready to submit their answers before they get to the result slide.

I hope that helps!

Have a great weekend,

Christine
