Storyline: Read the marker text before proceeding

Oct 18, 2012

Hi All. I am new to storyline and will need some assistance with this. I have created a slide which has a marker on it. I am using default "next" and "back" buttons.

Issue: when previewing the project, I am able to click next and advance forward in the course without having to read all the text which is contained in the marker.

I want the slide to not go any forward until the user has clicked on the marker. I have been playing with True/False variable - no luck so far.

I have created variable called "complete" and assigned it a "false" value. Then created trigger "Adjust Variable", along with other standard options i.e variable name, operation = assignment, Value = value - True, when user clicks - object - marker.

Don't know why it's not working . Any suggestions?

Hi Manpreet -

First: Welcome to E-Learning Heroes. I'm glad you got your first question answered so quickly

Another option is to use a trigger to evaluate when the marker(s) are closing. If you select your marker, you'll notice you have some new events at the bottom of the list: Content opening and content opening.

You can evaluate the marker closing and enable the next button or any other action.

Here's a very quick overview on how that works:

Hi Jamie and welcome to E-Learning Heroes 😊

Thanks for contacting us and sharing that you have a similar set-up need to Sarah here.

With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to understand your goals and possibly help you with any triggers and variables. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
