Storyline Recommended Tech Specs

Apr 25, 2014

Hi all

When using Storyline and creating some bigger courses, involving branching, images etc, I am finding it takes a long time to save and slows my PC.

I have seen the minimum tech specs on here, which I have, but was wondering if there was recommended tech specs.

Many thanks

Chris

Specs won't help much when it comes to overly long slides, or slides with tens of pictures etc. However there are several ways you can optimize your slides.

  • Try to make your slides "lighter". The less elements, the better the performance.
  • Optimize your images before you insert them. For example, why insert a 6MB TIFF when you can achieve the same visual impact using a 50KB JPEG?
  • Combine some frequently used fuctions (like the menu and/or navigation) on a single master slide.
  • Using state-switching (change state of x to state 2) instead of element-switching (change state of x to hidden/change state of y to normal) in your slides will also increase performance - however it may or may not be relevant to your scenario.

    Hope this helps,

Hi Alex

Thanks for your thoughts. They will no doubt be useful, especially for making the courses run more smoothly.

My key concern however is how long it seems to take to save in general, even before the main elements have been added, making me think I may need more memory.

In order to put a business case for this however, I need to find the recommended tech specs for Storyline.

Any further thoughts would be appreciated

Many thanks

Chris
