Storyline Screen Recording in Presenter as Web Object

Jun 28, 2012

Hi Everyone!

We are trying to produce a screen recording in Storyline and then import into Ariculate Studio as a web object. It seems to work fine when we insert it as web object and then view it on the same computer, but when we upload it to the web, that slide shows up as blank. Is there something we need to do manually with the storyline files that are produced?

Also, does anyone know the best dimensions to produce the storyline screen recording in that will then be inserted into Articulate Presenter?

Also, does anyone know if there is an easy way to remove the frame entirely from a Storyline-produced screen recording so that it shows up as just the recording inside the Presenter window?

Thanks in advance!

Hi!

I will have to check with my web hosting company, IX Web Hosting. But regardless of their answer, I need to be able to publish to SCORM/LMS for multiple clients running different LMS'. Is this going to be a problems depending on whether my clients have MP4 playback enabled or not on their LMS servers?? Is it common to have MP4 playback not enabled?

Thanks

IX Web Hosting enabled the MIME for MP4 on their server and it now works. (Gerry. You really are a superhero, aren't you?) Are there any other superhero's out there that have answers on my LMS question, frame question, and dimensions question?

p.s. on the dimensions question, the side of the inserted web object is different depending on whether I view it on my computer or view it after uploading it to the web. Just FYI.

If a server can support the following, you should be pretty good to go with Storyline.  Fortunately, most servers support most of these out-of-the-box, I believe, with only one or two not as common.

  • HTML
  • CSS (cascading stylesheet)
  • Javascript
  • GIF
  • JPG
  • PNG
  • XML
  • XSD (an XML schema)
  • Flash SWF
  • MP3 (audio)
  • MPEG4 (movies)

We have lots and lots of super heroes here.  Many, many good folks who happily share and help folks out.

That said, don't have an answer for your other question right now.  Hopefully someone will chime in shortly.

Oops, on the dimensions, as a general rule, I like to keep things as 1:1 as possible so nothing scales up or down.

So if I was doing the stock 720 x 540 in Presenter, I'd want my Storyline output to fit in that without scaling--or have it launch in its own window if more is needed.

You might want to ping or PM Steve Flowers here as he's done a lot on the Storyline player and its borders and want you may need to do to accommodate things.

Thanks for the info, Gerry!

Rather than worry too much about the size, we have just selected the Storyline settings, 1) resize browser to fill screen, and 2) scale player fill browser window. It seems to be working out. Hopefully we're not doing anything that degrades the picture or is less than optimal by doing this.
