Storyline - swf file issue - not playing in scene preview or publi

Jan 13, 2013

Hoping someone can help.

I have had to convert a number of mp4 videos to swf files as the external LMS where these will be uploaded cannot run mp4s.  I had requested installation of the MP4 MIME type but they are unwilling to do this.  As such I have no option but to convert the files.  I also tried to convert to FLV files but on reading further posts understand that Storyline converts the files back to mp4s once published - a trial confirmed this.

Whilst the swf animations/videos work when I preview the singular slide, when I try to view in Scene Preview  or when published there animation/videos donot appear.

Have managed to get one out of 5 to work - it seemed that if I clicked on NEXT slide and then clicked back to previous the video worked but I think this was because there was another video of the animation on the next slide.   It is not working for the others which have no swfs on next slide (hope that makes sense).    Is there something else I should be doing to get these to work?

Thanks.   Cath.

Hi Cath,

First, I want to make sure I'm totally understanding what's happening here. It sounds like the videos aren't playing for you when you're working on the project in "Preview" mode, not just went its been uploaded to the LMS, is that correct?

If the videos aren't playing in preview, as well, I don't think this is an LMS issue. Yes, you're going to run into issues if your LMS refuses to update their MIME type, but if the videos aren't working when you're editing the course, that's something else, as well.

If you'd like, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what's going on. Please submit a support case with us and include the .story file on the second page of the form. Also, please share your case details with me (you're welcome to do so here, or in a private message) so I can follow the progress and update this thread.

Thanks!
