Storyline video not playing fro iPad

Oct 31, 2013

Hi,

Till last week, we were suing Articulate Presenter for eLearning course development. At present the users/technology got upgraded and most of them using iPads, so that we decided to publish courses from Articulate Storyline to support iPad users. As mentioned in the guidelines and most of the online suggestions we published course and deployed from LMS.

Unfortunately the course is not playing from iPads, only black place holder appears for the flash based video files. (We have video files inside flash swf files on each pages)

As mentioned in the Articulate community forum, we have installed iTunes App. Still course not playing from iPad.

We confirmed that from our LMS vendor on “ Tin Can API” compatibility status.

As a test run we published two frames and uploaded into Articulate Online, same result. I have mentioned herewith the link which we used to test from Articulate online.

Please help us to resolve this issue.

Ashley thanks for your help. we followed the instructions as mentioned in the guideline and published the course. It works fine from iPad. we ave published a short course with HTML5 and iPad options for LMS use.

Once published the course, we have uploaded the course into LMS for testing in both environment iPad and Windows. everything fine from iPad. Now the problem with windows-based environment. video files not playing, remaining everything fine. but we tried from multiple computers, few computers playing without any reason, few computer not playing video files.

We installed different video players, latest flash players and all possible experiments. still videos are not playing snd not sure whats wrong. Is there any system requirement/setup/specifications to run HTML 5 courses from normal computers. Please let us know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

MPC.

Hi Leslie McKerchie, Thanks for your response. As you suggested, we have updated with storyline update 4. Still we are getting same result. playing from iPad as well from few computers. We don't know why it's not playing from other computers.

We have placed FLV video files in slides, I have attached herewith the copy short test course which we used for testing.

Hi Phil Mayor,

We don't have separate audio track, however we don't have any issue to run this files in iPad. now the problem with windows. We have published this course for HTML 5 and iPad option and uploaded into LMS for testing. it works fine from iPad, but not playing from few computers. is there any specific system settings or additional plugin requirements to play HTML 5 video files in windows?

Thanks and best regards,

MPC

Hi MPC,

For the computers that are not playing the course, could you tell us a bit more about the set up (Flash version, Internet browser, etc.)?

Hi Ashley Terwilliger,

We are using Flash player 11.0.1.152

Browser: Google Chrome

IE: version 8

(Stand alone copy /system copy working fine.  When we uploaded and play from LMS, the course plays only in limited computers.

Hope this helps.

Hi MPC,

You mentioned only a few computers are able to play the course - have you tested it on those computers in both IE8 and Google Chrome and everything worked successfully? Is there anything different about the computers were it is not working?  If you'd like us to test as well, we'd be happy to. Please share the .story file here with us or send it along privately here.

Hi MPC,

I see that Jayem did some additional testing on your file, and reported that he was not able to reproduce the issue. He shared some additional troubleshooting steps that I've included here for anyone else following alone:

I tested the project you sent and was not able to reproduce the issue. I was able to view all slides including videos within your project. At this point, let's first ensure that the machine you are using to test Storyline meets the requrements listed here:

Next, let's check if your server's MIME type settings are configured to play video files.  Please review the following article for more information:
