Storyline vs Studio 13

Apr 25, 2013

Hi,

I was hoping the experts can help me to make an important decision. I am looking at buying either Storyline or wait for Studio 13.  I am an advanced user of Studio 09 and find the speed at which it allows me to produce eLearning great. It however lacks an important capability which is to build scenarios. Storyline, a much more labour intensive tool to work with (I've played with the trial version), is great for scenarios.

I've had a look at the new features that will sit in Studio 13. It seems that like 09 it is not really meant for scenarios. Am I correct?

Which tool do I buy? Do I go for Storyline now or Studio 09 and upgrade to 13 when it is launched? I find this very frustrating. Is there a Captivate tool that can solve this problem for me?

Regards,

Jake

Hi Jake,

Both Studio and Storyline can both be used for scenarios, but Storyline will give you to freedom to be a little more creative in what you build. The key difference is that Studio 09 (and 13) will not support variables, triggers and layers. While Storyline development does take slightly more time, I think once you become more experienced with the tool, you will find that the development isn't that difficult.

If speed is your top priority though, then Studio is probably your best option. Hope this helps

There was a similar discussion thread a while ago that may provide some usefule info: http://community.articulate.com/forums/p/19992/110962.aspx#110962

You may have seen this comparison between Storyline vs. Studio '13 already, but just in case: http://www.articulate.com/products/storyline-studio.php

Personally, I would pick Storyline over Studio, as it provides more flexibility for the (mostly scenario-driven) projects I usually work on.
