Storyline - Web Object

Jun 06, 2014

Help please!

I know how to use web objects, but for some reason it is not working properly anymore.

I added a scroll then added a web object. It use to open up in the same slide and now it doesn't but takes them out of the articulate and the link opens.

I tried it with and without the scroll and "nada" nothing. I deleted the web object and did it again and nothing.

What can it be?

Hi Jessica,

Is this only occurring in one file or in all of your Storyline files? First, I'd check into the following things that could cause problems within your .story file:

Please let us know if the behavior continues after looking into those elements, and then we'll want to take a look at your .story file or if you'd like to share the link to the web object we can set it up in a new .story file to see how it behaves.

Hi Jessica,

Thanks for sending along the file. Taking a look at it, I suspect it's connected to the site not wanting to open within a frame as mentioned here.   I'd suggest adding it to open in a new window so that it doesn't block out your Storyline file, as when testing it I wasn't able to get back to the Storyline slide itself.

Hi Ashley,

It's interesting that the website is doing this when it all worked fine 2 weeks ago. I would like the link to open up within storyline. What other options do I have? I already showed it to my supervisor when the link was opening within storyline. If I can't make it work now .... I never would have used that feature.

Hi Jessica,

Do you have a previous copy of the file where it did work as expected? Has anything else changed in terms of the set up of your site that you're linking to? Other sites work as expected for me when using them as a web object, so it seems to be something specific to this site. Were you able to review the link I shared?

Hi Ashley,

The file was overwritten when I would update it. Yes, the problem is with the actual website. The original Articulate was working fine even after it was published online. Then all of a sudden the website must of done an update or changed a setting because now I am faced with this problem. I just wish more could be done.

Thank you for the link, will Articulate be offering additional support to solve issues like these? I think it is a frame problem.

Hi Jessica

Unfortunately the frame issue is website specific, so there isn't anything our team could do to change that behavior as it lies not within Storyline's code. Since the website seems to have been changed, you may want to reach out to the team who hosts the site, or look into using it in a new window instead of within your Storyline project.
