storyline with Wistia (tracking video)

Jul 19, 2012

Can a storyline module that has video work with Wistia ( http://wistia.com/product/analytics )

Wistia is a server for your videos that also has some awesome tracking capabilities with those videos:

how long viewer watched, where they skipped forward or backed up, taggin user to show which videos he has watched on your site and alot more

Can Wistia work with video we put into Storyline?

I'm thinking it can't as the videos are "re-rendered" to publish the storyline module.

thanks for your thoughts

Here is a reply from Wistia...i have sent them further details to get a final answer but it doens't look like Wistia will work:

John,

Unfortunately, I don't think that we easily integrate here...although I am not familiar enough with Articulate to be able to say that definitively.
If Articulate can accept either:
- iframes, or
- HTML with javascript
Things would work. However, my bet based on your description is that they do not. If you can point me to any documentation they may have regarding types of things that can be embedded, I'm happy to take a look and make suggestions.
Thanks,
Ben

Here is what i heard back....actually looks like i can use Wistia...

Based on that page, it looks like you should be able to use our iframe based embed code (which is the default). Choose the "From website" option and then paste in the iframe embed code from Wistia. The analytics should work just as normal.

Thanks,
Ben
But, i get the idea that he might not be taking into consideration that the embed code might be modified by publishing in storyline...am I correct or would the embed code stay the same?

Here's what I'd do.

Create a local folder.

Inside the folder, create a basic web page.  Call it index.html

On the web page you create, use the iframe command to embed the Wistia web content.

Then, insert the web page you created as a local web object in Storyline.

If you need help creating the local web  page, give a shout out.  Just include the URL to the Wistia video.

BTW, what format, do Wistia videos come in?

Wistia in Storyline

Use the video from Website option - you only need to change add the yourWistiafile part here (example, Qz12rd34).

Note that you will only see this working from your LMS, a website, or Articulate online. You can't see the video in preview (Error will say: Navigation to the webpage was canceled).

<iframe src="//fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/yourWistiafile" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" class="wistia_embed" name="wistia_embed" allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" webkitallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" width="620" height="349"></iframe>
<script src="//fast.wistia.net/assets/external/E-v1.js" async=""></script>
