Strange behavior on SL interaction slide

Jul 23, 2013

Hi all,

I just created a tab interactivity in SL and its working very well as I wanted to. But problem is when I open any tab by clicking on any button provided and then drag my seekbar to its initial position the screen is going back to initial state as it suppose to, but the pop-up remains open.

Please see the attached published file to know more.

Thanks for sharing your .story project file, Parashuram.

The root cause of this behavior is that your button clicks expose layers, and clicking on the seekbar doesn't do anything to conceal those layers.

If you like the way the buttons disappear when you drag the seekbar to the initial position (and want your "pop-ups" to do the same), we really need to change the state of your "pop-ups" to hidden when the state of your buttons is hidden.  This type of trigger cannot be created on a sub-layer, so one approach might be to:

  • On the base layer, add Slide Triggers to change the state of your rectangles and text boxes to Hidden when the state of their corresponding button is Hidden.

...or if you'd prefer that neither the buttons nor the pop-ups disappear when you drag the seekbar to the initial position, we need to bring the buttons in via a state change trigger (from the timeline start of an off-slide object), rather than via the timeline.  This alternative solution might look like:

  • Change your 3 buttons to Show Always.
  • Set the Initial state of these buttons to Hidden.
  • Insert 3 new rectangle shapes off the slide, and set their Start Times to the times you were previously using for your buttons.
  • Add Triggers to change the state of your button states to Normal when the timeline starts for their corresponding off-slide rectangle shapes.

There are lots of creative folks in the community who may have better solutions as well, I'm sure.  Good luck with your project!
