I worked around the problem by splitting the slides in my project into different .pptx files until I whittled it down to the problem slide. There was something about one of the slides that the program did not like, so I had to recreate that slide manually in Articulate.
So, I found a workaround, but still don't know why that slide was causing a problem...
I'm sorry you're seeing that error. I reviewed a few related cases, where certain objects were causing the import to break. Deleting and recreating them did the trick!
Since it looks like the issue could be project-specific, we'd love to lend a hand. Are you comfortable with sharing the PowerPoint file with us for testing?

which version/update of SL are you using and which version of PPT? Happy to try and import for you as a test - just upload the pptx file.

I got the same error than Jonathan. And it is located in some particular ppt slides. Did you find the cause?
