Strangeness when updating files from SL1 to SL2

Nov 18, 2015

I opened a file I'd originally created in SL1 in SL2 today. I found, when previewing it in SL2, that text boxes and layers appeared in the wrong order.

Is this a known problem or more likely to be a one off? It's quite unnerving, and it's not the first time it's happened.

Any thoughts, anyone?

Hi Katherine,

Could you share more information about what you mean by the text boxes and layers appear in the wrong order? As in you're seeing them out of order when previewing/publishing? Or perhaps they are not in the correct order in the slide timeline?

If you'd like to share a copy of the SL1 .story file here we could take a look and then look at upgrading the file to SL2 to see if we experience the same thing. You'll also want to confirm you're working on local project files as described here and that you're using the latest update of Storyline 2.

Hi, Katherine -- So sorry to hear you are having difficulties after upgrading from SL1 to SL2. As you mentioned that things look odd when you are previewing, are you seeing the same behavior when you test your course where it will ultimately be housed? You may also want to take a look at this information on Unexpected Behavior in SL2, and perhaps run through the repair steps listed, or see if importing the file into a new file will do the trick to address the issue.

And you would also be welcome to share your original SL1 file, so that I can check it out and see if I encounter the same thing you are seeing when I upgrade the file to SL2.

Hi Ashley and Christie - the problem seems not to be with upgrading from SL1 to SL2, but more generally with this particular file.

I keep finding that text boxes I've inserted on one screen appear on another.

I've already imported all the slides into a new file, and I don't have admin privileges on my machine so I haven't changed any settings.

It's rather demoralising to have this happen when you've spent a long time on a course.

Hi, Katherine -- Thanks for your response and so sorry to hear that issues persist! You may want to reach out to your IT Dept to see if they are able to go through these repair steps to see if you find improvement. And if you are able to share your SL1 file, please use the ADD ATTACHMENT button in the bottom left of the reply box and you can browse/attach your file so we can do some testing on our end.

Hi Christie

I needed to leave this course for a while, but it seems the problem I had previously is persisting. Specifically, testers are reporting that text boxes are appearing on the wrong screens.

I would love for someone at your end to look at the file but as it contains client data I'd prefer not to upload it here. Is there another way to send it?

Thanks so much

Katherine
