Submitting results - what actually gets submitted?

Jan 10, 2019

Hi, I have a course containing three sets of questions. One common part we want all learners to take. The other two sets of questions are according to the discipline they choose at the start of the course. So they appear in different branches of the course. Each has its relative results slide.

I have a 'master' results slide to be chosen when publishing the course. So on my master slide I submit results according to their discipline. If they are 'A' then results slide 'A' gets submitted. 'B' then 'results 'B'.

BUT, as all results slides have properties in which you choose what questions get included, does this override my 'submitting' mentioned above?

So the properties  of 'master' slide will override the submitting of 'A' or 'B'?

That seems to be the case as the course tells me I passed but Scorm Cloud tells me I failed. I'm presuming thats because the properties of 'master' results slide are blank.

Thanks!

Hi Steven,

Is the Results slide 3.4 tracking the two other individual results slides? That's what you'd need to choose to pass the results from those other slides and you'll need to choose between these options on how the results should be calculated:

User must pass each quiz

Select this option if learners must pass each individual quiz (represented by each result slide) in order to pass the overall course.

If learners fail any quiz in the course, then they fail the entire course.

Combine points from each quiz

Select this option if you want the scores from all tracked result slides to be added together as the final score for the course, then enter a percentage in the Passing Score field.

In this scenario, a learner could fail one or more of the individual quizzes and still pass the overall course.

It sounds like the Combined score would work, and you'll want to set the Passing field to account for the learner only completing one quiz. In this setup, you can customize what is shown on the actual results slide (no score % and that they passed/failed). Then check with your LMS about options for showing only passed/failed status and not a score.

Hi Ashley, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the combined score doesnt work for our situation. Choosing this option then increases the spread of question weighting over a larger number of questions. As we are trying one course for two disciplines, they dont need to answer all of the questions, only those relevant. So the combined score option leads to the learner never passing even if they have answered all of their relevant questions correctly.

Thanks for that extra detail, Steven.

Storyline lets you track a course by a single quiz (result slide). However, it sounds like you have a need to track multiple quizzes, depending on the learner's path.

Do you need to know what the learner's quiz score is? If you simply want to mark the course as "passed" if the learner receives a passing score, you should check out the course completion trigger.

If you do need to track the actual quiz scores, I'll leave it to the community to help you set up that custom quiz. This similar discussion is a good place to start!

Hi Steven,

Great news to share with you today - we've implemented a new feature that allows for expanding tracking within your Storyline 360 courses. You can read all about it here! You'll now be able to utilize:

Take a look by downloading and installing Storyline 360 Build 3.44.23192.0.
