Success Factors LMS and Storyline

Jul 02, 2013

Does anyone have any experience with publishing Storyline files to Success Factors? We're evaluating Storyline right now, and we want to make sure it will work with the LMS we have (though we may change LMS providers in the future). I have seen a few posts about SCORM not working well with SF and was hoping to get some more info. Are there any disadvantages to publishing with AICC?

Thanks!

Hi All,

Just reviewing this string of entries in order to gather info / confirm that I'll be able to publish the courses that I've developed [and will develop] in Articulate Storyline 2 for mobile devices.  These courses will still be housed on our company's LMS, but we want to give learners the option of completing them on their laptops or mobile devices.  I've been told that Success Factors is our vendor for this.  Hoping that I'll simply be able to publish for mobile at the end of the course development process and it'll work.  Let me know your thoughts on this and/or if there's something else I'll need to do or is being missed here.  Many thanks.

Hi Corey!

Articulate Storyline makes it easy to deploy your content to learners with mobile devices. See answers to common questions about publishing mobile content here.

I know we have users that utilize Success Factors.

We typically advise testing your content in SCORM Cloud as a comparison to determine if your issue lies within your LMS or within the course itself.

Good morning everyone,

Actually I also have an issue when loading my Storyline training into Success Factors which is our LMS. Everything works well except the videos. I don't know why they don't play when the training is assigned through Success Factors. Our e-training expert told me that it might be because the mp4 format is not supported by the LMS but I tried with SWF format (which is not re-encoded by Storyline into mp4) and no progress. The publishing format is AICC and I have no idea where the issue comes from. Did someone already experienced something like that? Any suggestion are more than welcome as I'm struggling with this issue for three weeks now and I have no idea on how to fix it and the Storyline Purchasing process is just frozen to see if we can overcome the issue ASAP.

Thanks,

Yasmine

Hi Yasmine,

If the LMS isn't supported them and the SWF files also don't work, I'd reach out to them with some additional questions. You may also want to look at testing it outside of your LMS in another environment such as SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard.

Did you also look at which update of Storyline you're using? I'd advise using the latest update Storyline 2 Update 11.

Help please... our company is switching from SABA to Success Factors. We have MANY courses that have a "Retake Quiz" button at the end. We can't seem to get the score to record on a retake. I will only record the first fail, then if we take the course again, nothing is recorded. Is this a setting in Storyline we missed or does anyone know if this won't work in Success Factors? Thanks ahead of time! :)

Hi. I have been reading on the page several cases about communication between SCORM 1.2 and Succes Factor, and everyone agrees that it is not marking as "complete". In the company we have the opposite case. More than 6 months ago we were loading Articulate Presenter SCORM packages into ORACLE and there were no problems. A couple of weeks ago we bought the Storyline 360 version, the SCORM package is having problems; It should be noted that a couple of months was changed from supplier of the platform to SUCCESS FACTOR. The course is considered "complete" even when the course was suspended upon closing the SAP session. When entering the platform again, it does not allow opening the route even when the ST configuration is set to "always ask". We have already tested with SCORM CLOUD the packaging and it is said that it is OK, but in the LMS it does not communicate according to the configuration or conditioner that activates another resource after "completing" the course.
We have tested the variants offered by the 1.2 scorm package: completed, error, suspended, approved; But none successful.
This has become a bit tedious, because each week we upload content to the LMS and we must explain to people that their content can no longer be seen, it is complicated; Fortunately they are informative capsules, they do not carry out the evaluation, but not all the people take to the well the fact of not being able to re-enter the course. In addition, I have established the number of attempts to review the platform, however, the order is consecutive and if it only allows # review the first content without activating the next.
I hope someone can support me.

Hi Caja,

I'm sorry to hear that things aren't working as expected in your Success Factors LMS. You mentioned it did work at SCORM Cloud, and that's a good sign that Storyline is doing what it's supposed to and what the majority of LMS's would expect.

Have you looked at enabling LMS debug mode? If you did that for the course in SCORM Cloud and SuccessFactors, you could see the information being sent to each and use that information to share with your SuccessFactors team. They'll be your go-to resource if things aren't working as expected!

Let us know if you need anything else.

Hi Marcia (Caja),

I just received your message, so I thought that I would reply to you in the thread—hopefully, it'll help other folks, if I'm correct! Admittedly, it's been over 2 years since I was in the position/company that used SuccessFactors/SAP. I may have left the company prior to the acquisition with SAP going into full-effect.

Although we didn't have issues with the courseware, we had issues with some default configuration settings when we first implemented the SuccessFactors system—immediately after Plateau was acquired by SuccessFactors.

From what I recall, most of the issues we faced came from how the LMS was configured. Most of the issues with completion were due to some sort of timer in the LMS being set too low. If I remember correctly, this timer ran as soon as a course would be launched in the LMS, and it would control how often and how long the LMS would try to communicate with the courseware. The SuccessFactors team was really apprehensive to let us adjust that setting, but it was ultimately something under our control.

It was a really obscure part of the system's configuration settings and was set according to a total number of seconds. It was difficult for us to get them to admit that it was the cause.

The second place you'll want to look is wherever the system setting is for the pass/fail/complete/incomplete status. I remember that we had to use the same scheme in Storyline as whatever the LMS was configured to. For example, if the LMS was set to Pass/Incomplete—that is what we had to use in SL when publishing.

Again, I have no idea what has changed in the system in the past 2 years—but hopefully that helps point you in the right direction! Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try my best to help.

Hi Alice,

The SuccessFactors mobile app isn't one we can support, but you could look at testing your content within SCORM Cloud and then using the Articulate Mobile Player, or the HTML5 output in mobile Safari or Chrome on Android. That would give you a good baseline of how the course should behave to use in your discussions with SuccessFactors.

Hello Raghavendra and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Michael's response in this thread is a bit dated and I'm not sure if he's still subscribed here. You are certainly welcome to reach out to the user directly via the 'Contact Me' option on the user profile if you do not hear back soon.

What issue are you having with LMS tracking? I know we have many Success Factors users in the forums and I'm sure that someone will be able to help you out here.

Hi Heroes!

I don't know if this thread is still active, but I hope so. We're publishing courses out of Storyline360 as SCORM2004 4thEd. The course works fine in SCORM Cloud using Chrome, but when we load to Successfactors, we can't get past the first slide. Instead you just get the Storyline spinning wheel. Anyone else having this issue?
