Suppress Test Me score report? 3rd-try-only solution in Try Me?

May 28, 2014

1. How can I turn off the Test Me score report? My client wants an interaction without the guidance of the "Click here" type triggers in Try Me, but without the scoring finale of Test Me.

2. In that design meeting, another manager asked about suppressing the "Click here" solution until the third wrong click. Theoretically I see one way to do this would be to create three layers on each slide (incorrect, incorrect, then click here), but realistically, that's tripling my work. Any simpler solutions before I tell this mgr that it can't be done?

TIA,

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

If you don't want to include a score for any of your screen recording in test mode, you'll just want to remove the results slide or any reference to the scoring on the slide (although it still may be reported to your LMS).

For the "click here" information, how many attempts have you set up your "test mode" for? You can determine the number of attempts on master setting when inserting your "test mode" and you could also uncheck to include the results slide automatically:

For more information on working with screen recordings, there are some tutorials here.

Hi Wayne,

In addition to what Ashley has said about the Results Slide and the Test Mode, I thought I'd take a stab at answering your 2nd question: as I understand it, to not display the Hint Caption until the 3rd wrong click.

Base Layer - Default Hint Caption Trigger

As you know, by default the hint caption is set in the Triggers panel to display when the user hovers the mouse over the "targeted" object. This trigger is on the Base layer.

So, first you'll want to delete this trigger.

Count Variable

Since you want to work off of number of clicks, you can create a number variable, let's say you call it COUNT, and the default = 0.

Try Again Layer Triggers

On the Try Again layer, add a Layer trigger that does this:

Show Layer Hint Caption when the timeline starts if COUNT variable= 2.

Also on this layer, add a trigger to the Try Again button that does this:

Add 1 to COUNT variable when the user clicks the button.

Base Layer Trigger

Add a trigger that changes the count to 0 when the timeline starts. This is so you can reuse this variable on subsequent slides.

Sample

I've attached a REALLY ugly/plain example for you and made these changes on the first 2 slides. I inserted a text reference on the first 2 slides so you can see the count being adjusted

On slide 1 the "correct click" area is the Insert tab.

  1. When the slide starts, note that the count = 0. Click anywhere EXCEPT on the correct spot. When "Try Again" appears, click the button
  2. Note that you're back at the base layer, and the count = 1.
  3. Again, click anywhere EXCEPT on the correct spot. When "Try Again" appears, click the button
  4. Note that you're back at the base layer and the count = 2.
  5. Again, click anywhere EXCEPT on the correct spot.
  6. Note that the Hint Caption has appeared.
  7. Click on the correct spot and you will automatically go to the next slide.

On slide 2 the "correct click" area is the Clip Art button.

Repeat the steps above.
