I'm creating a survey (short answer) to capture participants email and the state in which they live (which will be used, if they choose to opt in, for periodic updates & newsletters.)
I want users to be able to enter their email and their state on the same page. (Without having to add a new Survey slide to capture their state only.)
I'm fairly new to Storyline and have just spent a huge gap of time away from it. Jumping in with both feet now and on deadlines!
Welcome to the community and welcome back to Storyline!
I THINK I know how to achieve this, so I thought I'd jump in to get the conversation started. I know staff will jump in also to confirm/correct when the weekend is over, and I'm sure other community members will contribute as well.
Since the instructions are there, I won't repeat them. But you'll see that there are 4 slides:
The "please tell us how you felt about the course" slide
The 2 extra (blank) short answer survey slides that are needed in order to report your email and state variables to an LMS. These are hidden to the Learner.
The results slide that actually does the reporting to the LMS
The "Real" Survey Slide
I inserted two new text entries, one for email and one for state on the first survey slide (the please tell us how you felt)
Hidden Survey Slides
For the 2 extra (blank) short answer slides I followed the directions
Results Slide
For the Results Slide, I included references to the email and state variables so Learners can double-check their entries. The Review Quiz button brings them back to the survey slide where (I tested) they can change their responses if they made a mistake.
Per the directions, this Results slide is tied to all 3 short answer survey questions.
Nice Becky, I like the review set up to change your answers!
Kim, welcome to Heroes! I'm glad Becky was able to help you out here, and you'll also want to check with your LMS team regarding the types of reports you can pull to ensure you can see the text entry answers.
i've created 4 Survey questions which require users to input a written response. However I'm not able to assign a correct answer or find a way to review these results once uploaded to my LMS. The only things that seem to work are the straight forward graded questions, but we want to test the way our users write
Survey questions aren't graded and don't have a correct/incorrect function. The responses should still be reported to your LMS, but it'll be up to the LMS how those will be displayed and returned to you in a report.
Have you reached out to your LMS Admin to find out what the options are?
I think I finally figured it all out about an hour after I posted my
comment. We're hoping to utilise mostly short answer types which I am now
aware cannot be auto graded.
And yes, I'm currently working with my LMS provider to try and get more
from the Articulate results in their platform. Always nice to hear from
another Ashley Thanks!

I'm basing the attached on this Storyline support page: How to send the value of a variable to an LMS

Thanks so much Rebecca….I'm going to dive in today!

Glad it's helpful, Kim. Hope the "dive" is going well.
Great solution! Thanks Rebecca
Hey Tristan!
I'm glad to see that this thread is still assisting users :) Thanks for popping in to share and welcome to E-Learning Heroes.
I have a similar questionI think.

I'm just glad you spell your name the correct way. 😉
Keep us posted if you need anything else!
Can you insert more than one short answer question on to a slide and if so how?
Hi Penelope and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
By default, most questions are set for 1/slide by default. I know others have set up some custom slides to meet different requirements.
Hopefully someone will be able to chime in and help you out with your design and this thread may help get you started.
