Sync video clips audio with timeline animation - html5 (iPad)

Sep 15, 2014

Hi,

Has anyone managed to synchronize objects on the timeline with video clips (and its embedded audio) when viewed on html5 (mobile safari - ipad).

I have a series of mp4 video clips within a course. I have Storyline text objects which appear on screen at various points as the video plays. During playback on a PC everything syncs correctly i.e. flash version, however if viewed on an iPad2 (html5) the text objects are displaying ahead of the video and get more out of sync the longer the video plays.

I have tried all kinds of settings. For example I have the original mp4 video encoded at the same frame rate as Storyline (30fps), when publishing the audio bitrate quality is the same as the video audio bitrate etc.

Has anyone got any ideas how to keep video/audio sync'd with the storyline timeline in html5.

Morning Ian,

As you will have noticed I never received any replies to my original post 6 months ago. I have never found a way around this issue. The issue isn't just related to iPad browsers, the same thing happens on Android. It's a huge pity as I can't offer my clients sync'd audio and timeline animations with Storyline in html5.

I found an answer to my audio video sync issue on ipad though I do not think it relates to your syncing of the timeline to video, as I am playing video inside the built in player (showing controls). The audio publishing setting in storyline must be set to max, regardless of the original audio quality. As an aside I did originally have multiple video on layers but html5 can not deal with this (only one video per slide will work) so i have had to make each layer a dedicated slide. Not as smooth or elegant but at least it now works on an ipad.

Thanks for the tip on audio settings. I'll try that when I get a spare hour.

My original post was related to trying to display transcript text at the same time as a video clip played. I had a button which displayed a layer containing blocks of transcript text which appeared/disappeared as the layer timeline played.
