I'm working on a module with closed caption the user accesses by clicking on a "CC" button, which activates the closed-caption layer. The problem is that the closed-caption layer starts when activated and is not synched up with the audio, which is on the base layer, so I can't get the three text blocks in synch with the audio. Is there a way around this? Thanks!
I've found that syncing with audio in Storyline can be difficult. I would add the closed caption to your video. Then place a version of the video with the CC in one layer, and another version without in another layer. Play the version with or without CC based on the selection of your CC button.
In addition to Dave's suggestion, I also wanted to point out these two blog posts that offer other methods you can use to add closed captioning to your Storyline courses:
I finished a CC solution, today. I tried starting a new discussion (my first) with the project file as an attachment, but nothing has been posted. I made a demo for my ID team, but it shows just the outcome. It’s not a step-by-step tutorial. I’m hoping that, eventually, the .story file will be made available for download and dissection. I’d like some feedback. Here’s a link to the demo:
But, I wanted to have a CC button in the player controls where the general population would expect it, and have it toggle at any point in the playback.
That's incredibly elegant and simple, Joe. I'm definitely hanging on to the example for future reference. One question: How did you create the CC button in the player controls? I couldn't figure it out from looking at the player settings. Thanks...
I’ve found that lots of folks don’t like, or don’t notice, the Submit button appearing at a quiz slide, and I end up inserting an arrow pointing at it, anyway.
Now, if I need a Submit button, I’ll just create my own right in the slide content area.

Hi there, Joe. Welcome to Heroes! Hey- I used to live in Anne Arundel county growing up...small world. :)
That example looks great! So clean and intuitive. Please do share the source file if you are able to in the future!
Hello, Crystal.
Thanks for the welcome. Or should I say, “Howdily doodily, ex-neighborino!”? No, I should definitely not say that.
I’m giving the attachment a shot here.
Joe
Ha! Can't unring that bell now, Joe. ;) Thanks for sharing the file- excellent!
I would be remiss if I didn’t give a big shout out to Matthew Guyan. It's his article that's the basis for triggering the text.

Thank you, Shel.
Here’s a screen capture of the Player Properties, Custom section, Aa Text Labels area where, in button 98, I renamed it from SUBMIT, to CC.
Yep, I saw that; thanks. Where I'm confused is how you were able to place that renamed Submit button in the player.
Ah... You just need to check the Submit box in the Slide navigation controls for all of the slides.
Oh, duh, of course. I was overthinking it! It's a per-slide action, not a base action. Thanks Joe. You rock.
