Tabbing Order
Jun 26, 2018
With the new updates it seems that the tab order no longer functions as it use to. I have several slides in a project with layers. It was designed to tab from base layer content to layer content but now it starts tabbing from the beginning of the base layer when it goes to each layer. It did not do this before your most recent updates. Tab order is set correctly to go to the first thing on the layer once the layer opens but instead it goes back to the start of the base layer.
We have also noticed that some of the yellow border boxes are no longer centred on the item being tabbed to. We find on a number of occasions that they are noticeably off centre.

Hi there William,
I'm so sorry you're running into both of these issues. It looks like they were introduced with the latest Storyline 360 Update 17, and our team is currently looking into a fix for those.
As soon as I know more, I'll pass the information along to you. I appreciate you letting us know these bugs are affecting your project!
Hi,
We are having the same issue with the new update on any slides we have that have buttons linked to layers. All of our material needs to be ADA compliant, so the tabbing must go in the correct sequence we specify using the custom tab order.
The tabbing goes in the correct order on the base layer, but after you select a button, it will tab to the first item on the list, which is always the title in our projects, then it tabs through the buttons first before highlighting the content on the layer you are on.
Before the update, the user would select a button on the base layer, then it would tab to the content on the layer, then to the next button on the base layer. Going in the correct order we had it set at.
We have deadlines coming up on our projects, so it would be much appreciated if I could get any updates on the progress of a fix for this issue. Thank you for looking into this!
Thanks!
Chris
I'm sorry this is impacting your courses, Chris! We know this is affecting accessibility standards, so correcting this issue is a major priority for us. We'll let you know as soon as we have a solution in place!
After 2 months I do not believe we have seen a fix for this very important issue. Can we get an update?
Hi William,
The issue where the tab order restarts from the beginning when a layer is opened in the HTML5 output is slated to be fixed in the next update of Storyline 360. We'll let you know as soon as that's ready!
I am having the same problem, and I'm glad you're working on it. Meanwhile, I might revert back to the previous version (May 2018) until this is fixed.
This is a showstopper for anyone developing for the government who is not using SL360. Our team will be rolling back to the earlier version of Storyline 3.
Hi Traci,
So sorry for the trouble, and we are planning to include this bug fix in the next update of Storyline 3. In the meantime, we're happy to help you roll back to a previous update.
Simply reach out to our Support team here, and mention this discussion. They'll send you some next steps.
Here's a fix for the issue that may apply. On each layer, you have to enable "prevent the user from clicking on the base layer". That way, tabbing will not go back to the base layer and stay on the slide layer. You also would need a "Close" button or functionality on the slide layer to return to the base layer.
Hello, Alyssa.
Has the tab order issue been fixed yet? I am working on a government project and accessibility is a must. Thank you.
Hi Onoda,
The issue where tab order restarts from the beginning when a layer is opened was fixed in Update 19 of Storyline 360 (we're not on Storyline 360, build 3.22.17236.0). Do you know what version of Storyline you're currently using?
The other issue mentioned here where when a user is tabbing through slide objects the yellow box is misaligned is still open with our team for investigation. We'll keep you posted on that here!
I am using Storyline 3, Update 5: 3.5.16548.0. My issue is with the tab order restarting when a layer is opened. Thank you.
Best regards.
Hi Onoda, thanks for checking in! We're still seeing this issue in Storyline 3, but we're planning to release a fix for it in the next update. I don't have an ETA on that update at this time, but we'll be sure to let you know as soon as it goes live!
Any word on when this will get updated? This issue has still not been resolved as of today.
Hi Matt,
The issue where tab order restarts from the beginning when a layer is opened is scheduled to be fixed in the next update of Storyline 3 - which is coming very soon! The other issue mentioned in this discussion where the yellow tab focus box is not centered on slide objects or player buttons is still open and our team is investigating.
We'll let you know here once either fixes are available.
Any update on this fix for Storyline 3? Trying to decide whether to roll back to a previous update.
Hi there, Amy! Sorry we missed you. Storyline 3 update 6 included a fix for the issue with tab order starting over when a layer is opened. Check out this link to download the latest version of Storyline 3!
Let me know how you make out.
