Template troubles - Storyline 2

Mar 08, 2016

Searched around a bit for an answer to this but nothing came up...

Two questions/issues actually.

I created a file in Storyline 2, changed the size to be 16:9, made a few changes to the master slides and layouts, then saved it as a .storytemplate file. The problems I'm having:

1. How do I (easily) create a new file from this template? When I open Storyline I see "New Project," but I don't see an option to create a new .story file based on my .storytemplate file. If I proceed and create a new file and then click "New slide" I can insert a new slide(s) from the template but the project by default is 4:3, not 16:9.

If I instead use Import from the splash screen and choose Import from story template, I get to the same place.

The workaround I've used is to go to the .storytemplate file and double-click it. After telling Windows that it needs to use Storyline to open it, it looks like it creates an untitled .story file. Just wondering if I am missing something.

2. In master slide view, I gave the default slide master a custom background - an image. Then I created new layouts and gave them their own custom background images as well. These are section divider slides...one is orange, another teal, etc. When I get out of Master slide view and into Story view, I can insert new slides, no problem. However when a slide is visible in the filmstrip and I change it from one layout to another layout that has a different custom background, the background often does not change. For example, I have the layout called Question with Media with the slide master background, but when I right-click the thumbnail and choose one of the section divider layouts, the objects on the slide change but it retains the master slide background.

Any assistance would be appreciated!

Hi Edward,

You'll want to follow the steps here to import in the template and it should include your story size if you're starting a new project from the template. If you're inserting slides based on the template into an existing story project they'll default to Storyline's default story size of  720 pixels wide by 540 pixels high.

As for the master slides issue, I think we'd want to take a look at your .story file in terms of how you set up the background and the additional design elements. Are those layouts associated with the main master or are they all their own base master slides? You can read more about slide masters here and feel free to upload the file here using the "Add Attachment" button to share it with us.
