Test - Allow student to arrange images / add connecting lines

Feb 26, 2016

We currently test students on how a process flows through various components - we give them a blank canvas (paper) and they draw the components with the connecting piping to demonstrate knowledge of the manufacturing process from beginning to finished product.

Is it possible to build an electronic version, (perhaps with two areas: a small area that contains different items and a large blank area) where the student can choose a component from one area, then drag and drop on the canvas, arrange them,  and add connecting lines?

Hi, Glen -- Thanks for reaching out! It might be most helpful if you could share your file if you have one started to help illustrate what you have described. And for general information, here is a great article on how to use Drag and Drop to in a course, and also here's a previous post where the concept of drawing was discussed.

And for additional design-related input, please feel free to reach out over in our Building Better Courses forum, as well! :)

I haven't built a file yet, but I've attached a sample.

We test operators on "sketching" the process that includes different types of vessels (towers, tanks, pumps, etc.). I wanted to build a pictorial group that includes the items, then have them place the items on  blank canvas and add interconnecting lines (piping). I can do drag and drop, but I wanted the operator to have ability to rearrange items after they have placed them (i.e., a "sort order")

I have used this method in Quizmaker, but it has limitations (linear) - is it possible to do this graphically, similar to storyboard?

Thanks for your help Christie!

Hi, Glen -- Many thanks for your reply and for sharing the image of what you have described! Unfortunately, as design is not my area of expertise and I do not have any additional suggestions to share for ways to achieve this, I will need to go ahead and defer to your fellow community members to assist you further. And again, you may find even more help by posting over here, also. :)
