Testing for content in text entry fields

Sep 13, 2013

I want to make sure that learners enter something into 2 text entry fields before they move onto the next slide. I don't care what they type, I just need them to put something in the fields. What would be the best way to do that? Is there a null character or would it be better to use a wildcard character? What are these characters? Thanks for any help. mkw

Hi Mary Kay:

I have "wipped up" a quick story for you to reference.

In short, I do validate one letter in Field one, then validate one letter in Field 2 to enable the submit button. The Quiz results only record field 2.

In this example, I monitor the "f" key in the first field to uncover the second field, then in that field, I monitor the "L" key to enable the Submit button. You can create a custom Results slide to take this further.

Hope this helps.

Hi again Mary Kay:

I had an opportunity to help another user and in doing so, I created a (what I consider) better setup that provides feedback and validation for both text fields.

A bit more tricky, but works perfectly.

I've attached the updated story for your reference.

Thanks Dennis.

Your ideas weren't exactly what I was looking for. but your ideas triggered an idea that works just the way I needed it to. Now we can gently require learners to give us a name so we can personalize their course experience (or add a little humor).

Thank you for your help.
