Text Box - Characters are being removed...

Jan 30, 2014

We are experiencing a really frustrating bug w/ Storyline:

While adding text to a text box, if the characters "OI" are added to the textbox more than once, the "O" is removed from all occurrences of "OI" leaving "I" as soon as the cursor is moved to a new line.

Does anyone have any idea why this is occurring?

We do have a workaround:

1. Create a  text variable

2. Assign the value of the textbox to the variable

3. reference the variable.

This is not an ideal workaround as it creates an very large number of variables throughout the entire presentation.

Hi there Brad and welcome to the community!

I'm afraid I'm not able to reproduce this on my end. Which version of Storyline are you currently running? Please make sure you're running the most recent version of Storyline. Articulate Storyline Update 5 includes bug fixes, performance improvements, and HTML5 output enhancements. Click here for details.

If you're working on a network drive, or any other external storage, that might be causing the trouble.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

If that doesn't help are you able to outline the steps to reproduce this? Also, can you clarify whether you're referring to a capital "i" or a lowercase "L"? I've tried with the capital "i", but I just want to make sure that's what you're using.

Thanks for sharing the workaround. However, hopefully we'll be able to figure out what the problem is and eliminate the need for the additional work.

Thanks!
