Having trouble applying a drop shadow or glow effect to text (NOT the text box) that I am laying over an imgae. There appears to be no way todo this in Storyline. Help please.
If you're not applying this effect to a text box, how are you placing the text over the image? Have you tried highlighting the text itself and applying the shadow (from the formatting menu - not the shape effects)? Try that and then preview the project. Does it show up now?
If you haven't already, you could try placing an object, or button over the image. Make the background and border for the object transparent.
You could also do this with a caption box - I believe the text applied is automatically shadowed.
If you still have trouble with this, can you share a screenshot or the .STORY file? I'd be happy to take a look and see if I can help.
I am having this issue too. There appears to be no way to apply glow effects to the actual text. Whereas in PPT when you highlight text you can click "Text Effects" to give the text itself shadows, glows etc. In Storyline is appears to only let you apply the effects to the text box itself, which isn't what we want to achieve.
Unless I am missing the options somewhere. (I know it still has shape effects, but that only applies the effects to the box)
Within Storyline the only option would be to add the 'shadow' effect to the text as Christine mentioned previously. You're welcome to share your thoughts on including this as another feature here.
I have submitted this as a feature request, do we have an update on when it will be available?
It seems an odd thing to leave out as Storyline 2 generally has all other text and image effects/formatting options available.
Most of our library courses use text glow as it is great for showing text over the top of an image so we cannot move to Storyline until this is resolved. (the rework would be considerable!)
It's annoying as other than this and its inability to export to PPT Storyline 2 is almost perfect in every way!
We don't share any updates or road maps in regards to feature requests or new updates/versions. The best way to stay up to date on news from Articulate is to follow along with our Word of Mouth blog.
I don't know if this is what you want, but I applied a glow to text in Powerpoint, copied and pasted the text box, not the text, and the glow followed.
The drawback is that it pasted as an image, so you want to have it in its final form before you leave PP.
Thanks Jake - I certainly understand and I know that thought is something we've shared with our product development team in the past, and you're welcome and encouraged to share your thoughts as well in the form of a feature request for a road map.
I'm a newbie here and scoured to find something on this subject after unsuccessfully trying to apply a hover glow over text and not the text box. I tend to use hover and glow features quite a bit. I agree with Jake that it seems an odd feature to leave out, considering the other ppt like options built into to S2.
Thanks James and welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community. You can always share thoughts here in the forums and if there are particular features you'd like to see we also ask that you share them in the form of a feature request as those go to our product development team to review.
Johnny come lately here. I'm a bit confused: we need to put in a feature request for a feature that is already there? I've selected either the text box or the text itself and both have the option of adding a shadow effect but neither works. Am I missing something?
Never too late - that's why we keep all the threads live. As far as the feature mentioned here, I am not sure if you were running into the same issue. I just tested in Storyline 2 and I was able to add a shadow to the text by clicking the text box or highlighting the text itself. I did this using the Shadow icon on the "Font" tab vs. the "Format shape" set up as you showed that is for the shape itself, not the text within it.
If I'm misunderstanding can you share a bit more information or a copy of your .story file here with us to take a look at? You can attach it using the "Add Attachment" button at the bottom of the reply window.
I am also having trouble with the text shadow feature... I was able to find it in the "Font" tab, but when I click it, nothing happens to the text. I tried it both by selecting the text box as well as highlighting the text in the box. Any ideas? Thank you!
I was just wondering about an update for this bug? After updating to the latest version of SL, text drop-shadow still doesn't display in the design view - only when previewed or published.
Drop shadow for text (under shape effects) in fact dowork from what I can tell, you just can't see them in the design view for some reason. If you preview the slide or publish your course they will show up. A strange and confusing bug for sure.... Hopefully this helps.
Thank you for reaching out. It sounds like you see what has been reported to our team; adding shape effects to text boxes is only reflected in Preview/Published modes, not when editing the slide.

Hi Ashley,
I understand, but it does make planning for the future nigh on impossible.
I guess we will just have to go on the assumption that it won't be fixed and go with a different product.
Thanks
Jake
Hi Walt,
Yes we were able to do that to, unfortunately this raises 2 key issues for us:
1: If the text needs amending it is a lot more troublesome
2: Much more of an issue, is that our courses are translated into numerous languages, text saved as an image is a problem.
Thanks
Jake

A feature request for a roadmap to show the progress of feature requests for other features is a terrifying inception-like concept.

Hi Marina,
Text glow does work, but it doesn't show up in design view for some reason. You need to preview/publish the course for it to work.
I'm not sure why, but it does work - although you are restricted to using the colours specified in your colour template.
Thanks
Jake
Thanks for explaining that! I see it now!
Marina
I have the same problem in design view, text glow shows up on preview.
Hi, Yann.
I also experienced what you described above, so I logged it as a possible software bug to our team and linked this discussion to the report.
I'll come back to update you when I have any news to share!
Quick workaround for editable text shadows:
Thanks John, but you cannot skew the shadow and make it fall to ground, like that in shape option of shadows, would be great if we could do that

I wanted to share some information on how we define bugs and tackle them when they occur.
As Maria mentioned above, we will share updates with you here when we are able.
Seconding that this bug is annoying
