Text entry fields in software simulation

I've been creating some software simulations for my client. Mostly, the record screen has worked perfectly and created text entry boxes for the Try and Test modes. However, I have one piece of software that sits behind a VPN and remote desktop (don't ask) and the record screen doesn't pick up text entry so well.

In Try and Test mode, that screen creates a freeform question but using the shortcut key question type. I've removed that and replaced it with a text entry question type. Everything still works fine except that you have to click in the text entry box before you can type. Where the screen record does this automatically, you can type directly without clicking in the box first.

Is there a way I can change my text entry box so that you can just type without clicking on it first?
